Friend described me as an 8/10

Is that good?! I hate the objectifying rating thing but am feeling low about my appearance. Appreciate people probably add on a point or two to make their friend feel better too

I'd say that's very high... Even if they really think you are a 7.

4-6 would be average looking to me

RiaOverTheRainbow · 31/10/2020 16:32

It means you look better than 80% of the population, obviously it's good.

LongWay833 · 31/10/2020 16:34

Why are you feeling low about your appearance?

Friend is infantile and shallow. HTH.

Did you ask them to rate you? Or did they offer this?

I wouldn't have gone along with this if you'd asked me. And I certainly wouldn't have offered up such an opinion.

How old are you both?

Bbq1 · 31/10/2020 16:38

Obviously op you would know it is a, "good" rating. Is it kind of gloating. Oh look, I'm a 8 to 10 followed by faux innocence asking "Is that good?"

HollowTalk · 31/10/2020 16:38

What would she class herself as?

Report
purpleme12 · 31/10/2020 16:40

It's 2 marks off the top score so you tell me
I agree it's gloating

burnoutbabe · 31/10/2020 16:40

Thr only way this would be bad is if you are worlds highest paid model and it's your agent explaining why the job went to someone else!

Report
JacobReesMogadishu · 31/10/2020 16:41

Well maybe she classes supermodels as a 10. Normal models as a 9 and you just under them.

Unless you’re a model what’s the issue?

Report
JacobReesMogadishu · 31/10/2020 16:42

Oh, I thought you were complaining you should have been higher.....I’d be happy with 8. I’d be happy with 6 to be honest.

Report
Otterhound · 31/10/2020 16:45

How silly
I could say I’m 7/10 but stood next to my friend who was a very successful model I’d be more like a 3/10!!!

Report
ChristmasinJune · 31/10/2020 16:46

Did you ask her to rate your looks? In which case stop! That's such an awkward thing to ask a friend.
On the other hand if she offered the information without prompting..... I'd be downgrading the friendship somewhat.

Or am I just an old fart? Is rating somebody on their looks a "thing" now?

Report
Wyntersdiary · 31/10/2020 16:47

I'd rate myself a 7, as I'm above average( in my opinion) but I'm not gorgeous which would be an 8 and 9 in my opinion then a 10 would be wow your perfect in my eyes.

But ratings arnt facts they are just people's opinions

Oh sorry! No not gloating. She is practical and not offensive. I was upset about a relationship ending with someone who wasn’t very nice to me. She very briskly said you’re an 8 and he’s a 4, move on

Did she just mean looks? Or did she mean overall? Like personality, job prospects, etc.

I’m sure she meant it kindly.

I had a friend who said the opposite to me once when I was mooning over a guy who wasn’t interested. But she rated us in climbing difficulty terminology. Problem is she said that you’re a V Diff and he’s a Hard Severe. Translation was that he was out of my league! 😆😆

Oh ok I'll let her off then, this is just a way of saying "you were too good for him anyway" the numbers are largely irrelevant, don't get too hung up on them.

I've got a 'friend' who does this sort of thing. Rating each other's looks is neither a friendly nor a mature thing to do.

I agree friends often add on a couple of points but sometimes that's because they can see your worth as a whole, not just your appearance. And clearly she thinks he was punching above his weight with you either way.
