Tinder app appears on my phone - bf doesn't believe me

Hello all,

Something rather strange happened this evening. My partner arrived home from work very angry.

According to him I've downloaded Tinder, or used Tinder in the time I've had an android phone (which is the time I've been with him, when I used Tinder I had an iPhone). I was shocked because I haven't used Tinder for at least six years, before I met him, but he showed me the suggested apps in the Google Playstore and there it is, ready to be installed (along with Bumble, which I've never used in my life). I've been with him for four years.

Can these popular apps be suggested to anyone who fits the right demographic (mid 20's etc)? Really puzzled and my bf is really angry. My Phone's a Huawei if that makes any difference!

Why wouldn't it be a suggested app? You haven't even downloaded it ffs! Your bf is either paranoid or very thick Hmm

I work in tech btw. There is nothing untoward about tinder being a suggested app on Google play. Fwiw I've just checked what's suggested for me and "colouring and learn" came up. I don't have ANY kids in my life!

When he goes into play store what are his suggested ones....

How is he even looking on your phone??

But yes it’s completely normal to have suggested apps that are weird, mine are something Peppa pig (no kids and hate that damn pig) and something about soundscapes (don’t even know what that means). Tell him to chill. If he doesn’t, he’s paranoid and not a nice person.

It's a suggestion, and he's a twat.

Your phone probably realises what a knob your bf is and suggested it for you so you can bin him off.

He’s bonkers, who gets annoyed about suggested apps?!

But you've not downloaded it, it's only 'suggested'. It's probably because you're a certain target age, or because you've downloaded a social media app or similar. Or it may just be because it's a popular app and they randomly suggest the top apps to you.

This shit really annoys me Angry Years ago with an ex, we used to watch TV shows on some, ahem, dodgy websites. The pages were full of porn ads, but once you started watching you couldn't see them obviously. Every single fucking time, my bf would say this was 'proof' that I was a sex worker, as 'obviously' my movements were being tracked and it was showing me 'relevant' ads.

The fact that I was the one that worked directly with Google and Facebook ads and knew exactly how cookies and the facebook pixel worked and he had no clue meant nothing to him. He was dumped for his ridiculous paranoia soon afterwards, and to this day thinks I'm some sneaky sex worker Hmm

Wow everyone thank you so much for your quick replies!

I don't know how he knew it would be suggested, my phone doesn't have a pass code but I keep it with me all the time so I don't know how he could have seen.

It's suggested in the App library, I don't know if that makes any difference.

So he's somehow looked without you knowing. I'd be more worried about how he's checking up on you behind your back tbh.

Yes nevermore that's what I thought. I récently downloaded Instagram so I thought that could be the connection! I don't use social media really!

He's managed to look over your phone very thoroughly somehow.

So your boyfriend is sneaky, controlling and paranoid?
And you're with him why?

Report
StartingGridGo · 26/10/2020 18:41

Haha DH and I have both just checked and it's a suggested app for both of us.

How's he been able to look at your phone then if it's with you all the time?

And coming home from work angry suggests that he's somehow looked at or logged into your account while he's been at work.

I have a Huawei too so I went to check what is suggested on mine. Badoo is suggested on mine and I definitely not downloaded any dating apps.

It's a strange thing for him to have a hissy fit about.

That's my worry too Sparklfairy.

I didn't think he was really paranoid, but he just isn't listening to me. And because I have a rather wild past he doesn't trust me now.

Why is he checking your phone, are you checking his in the same way?
He is an idiot, a suggested app is just that. My list includes TikTok, Uber Eats, Disney+, Tinder and Trading Stocks to name just a few. None of which I’m remotely interested in! Tell your OH not to be a dick.

coffeecroissant · 26/10/2020 18:46

CodenameVillanelle this is the first time he's been as sneaky as this. But yes I'm asking myself the same question.

If he doesn't trust you - why is he with you?

He's into your phone somehow OP. I'd be worried about that.

Mine has Tinder and Bumble on my suggested apps. I've been married 11 years and never done any form of online dating or remotely close. Didn't even have a mobile when I last went on a date.. I presume both apps pay to be in the suggested apps, perhaps of people of a certain age, location or whatever.

My 'recommended' apps are not a million miles from things I might be interested in. My 'suggested' apps bear no resemblance to my life or interests.

I'm not checking his phone at all!

It's really so strange I don't know how he could access my phone while he's at work, he can't even make a PowerPoint without someone's help.

Unless he saw that it was suggested on his phone and then figured it would be suggested on mine too?
