Relationships

Anyone found true love later in life as in 45+ or post children?

I was phoned by a friend today who has found a new lovely relationship aged 50 with two grown up children. He is 55 -two grown up children and a very amicable ex wife who is remarried. They live together but socialise with all for children -hot tub etc. All 4 kids are happy that mum and dad have found each other and all get along well. She met him in a bookshop 2 years ago where she kept going in and browsing the travel section every saturday in Waterstones and he did the same. After 3 bump in and chats whilst looking at books in said section he invited her for a cuppa in Costa next door and the rest is history. They brought a project house together (6 bedrooms) a year ago jointly and have done it up. She was married to an awful nasty piece of work about 20 years ago and he gave her years of hell raising the kids (her kids have no contact with dad now through choice). She's just phoned me to say they are getting married. I'm really pleased for her. She said 'Not quite Last Tango In Halifax but I never thought it would happen for me -ever.' She concentrated solely on the kids until they went to university -never herself. So I'm so so happy for her. Anyone else got or know post divorce happiness or mid life / old age happiness (I have to be careful as my friend may be 50 but she is young young young at heart and so is he! so def not old so I use the term vaguely)?

Yes. A family friend who was single all her adult life. Met a lovely man when she retired through an activity they both did. They are now very happily together and it's so wonderful.

Yes I have. (Previously married to an awful man). Met online. I had no idea what a kind, supportive, equal, loving relationship looked like. I’m so happy to be marrying him.

Me. I met my husband through my school friend who is married to his brother. DH had been widowed three years previously. I had never been married

We wed within a year of our first date (we lived in different cities and exchanged texts then calls for 3.5 months before The Date)

We are blissfully happy

My mum was pretty much single from age 30. Age 51 she met the most wonderful man and is now living a total fantasy life. She's deeply in love, he adores her and he's been married a few years. All children mostly get on and things are wonderful.

Marmaladey I'm wondering what the activity was -did she do it as she had retired and had movre time or was it something she has always done?

Watching with interest. Am 45 soon, been separated a few years and keep meeting guys that aren't right for me. I'm also fat which makes me unattractive.

I don't know any of my friends and acquaintances who have been through a marriage break up that haven't moved on with another partner. I'm the odd one out and it saddens me

Kids nagging me to start dating. Haven't the heart to tell them I have been, but am rubbish at it.

AFA -please don't knock yourself down. Please don't. Fat does not mean unattractive. The most attractive woman I know is large -but so is her heart, love and house and gosh she's gorgeous ! x

My friend was widowed at 48. A car accident. Huge shock and awful.

Two years later she started dating. First date was straightaway the right guy. They fell in love and have been living together for 5 yrs

So happy for them Smile

@aufaitaccompli Please don't think of yourself as unattractive. It worries me that you may settle for less than you deserve.

45 is not old Smile Yes, it is more than possible to find love and someone hotter than Hades to enjoy it with!

Do people want to share their stories of how they met? My granny met my grandfather by reversing into him! He took her details and took her out for lunch (to calm her nerves apparently) and then asked her to marry him. Not quite the same. But I love the story. She once reversed and hit a post when I was about 10 and when she told him she had hit something -he lifted an eyebrow and said 'So are you replacing me with a younger model then?' o gosh I had forgotton how much they adored each other.

Age old, we worked together, both unhappy marriages, both left our respective partners and then started dating
