How Do You Cope With Being Hurt?

I was seeing someone for a short time a while ago. I know it sounds ridiculous but every now and then I still get twinges of hurt as the dumped one. I think it's because it ended abruptly without things progressing into a full relationship.

I've had a few dates since but there hasn't been any sparks with anyone.

How do you get over the hurt?

Obviously not dating during lockdown.

Time will heal. Your allowed to feel hurt and sad. It's hard when things end especially abruptly. Someone I got close to just stopped messaging me 3 weeks ago. It still hurts. No closure. I have good days and bad

Short relationships you could see a future in are a pig to get over in the short term. In fact, I still haven't forgotten one person I really liked after only 2 dates a year ago who behaved a bit shittily and then ghosted me, all because we got on very well and I thought he was genuine. Proportionally these feel much worse than long ones that ran their course but you will get there.

Keep busy, spend time on yourself, your hobbies, fitness, studies, box sets or reading, whatever interests you. Stay in touch with friends and family who make you happy.

Importantly, when you do get back to dating, be selective. Have at least one proper phone or video conversation before you meet anyone. Nothing will make this short fling shine brighter in retrospect than endless crappy dates.

We have all been there and you will be fine Flowers

Totally agree with a short relationship being possibly harder to cope with. It's the illusion of what could have been.

You greave the loss of dreams and potential.

Been there so many times and it's hard, I also feel like a Bridget Jones !! I met someone nice before lockdown and we have been messaging and he wants to meet up again but I'm scared he's going to let me down like all the others and I'm starting to wonder if it's worth the hassle and hurt !

Yes, it's the looking back and thinking we were compatible and that it's a shame it didn't become a proper relationship. It's different from growing apart from someone in a long term relationship.
