Is my sense of humour really "off"?

Just looking for some opinions.

I have a stupid sense of humour and what seems hilarious to me often seems pointless and ridiculous to others.

Anyway on Friday night my partner had had a bath and left his clothes and shoes in the bathroom.

Before we went to bed (around 1.30am) I went into the bathroom to wash etc and noticed a slug had slithered over his trousers that he had left on the floor, I found this quite funny but then decided to pick the slug up in some tissue and put it inside his shoe (just the slug itself, not the tissue). Once done I went into the living room with a straight face and said "hey, there's a slug in your shoe...I would've taken it out but I darnt touch it...".

DP said "a slug IN my shoe? don't lie" so I insisted it was true, tried so hard not to start laughing and in the end he went in to look...I heard him say "eww...and he picked the shoe up, dropped the slug into the toilet and said "goodbye" to it and I couldn't help but crease up, partly at my own joke but also at his calm reaction, I just thought it was hilarious and then when he started saying he couldn't understand how it had got into the shoe my stomach was actually hurting from laughing so much .

Anyway this morning we were talking about it and he half joked and said "I bet you put it there" and after laughing uncontrollably again I admitted I had.

Anyway, to my point...he didnt find it funny at all, he wen't really quiet and said he doesn't go around doing things to my stuff and doesnt expect me to do it to his etc...

Tonight I tried to joke about it again with him and he's adament that he doesn't find it funny and is still slightly annoyed by it and in his words "it's the other stuff you do too, it's just not funny".

I've been thinking it over and I just wanted some opinions really, was it a stupid thing to do? I only meant it as a joke but I don't want to be the irritating person that thinks she's funny but just gets on everyones nerves...

If your partner didn't "get on" with your sense of humour would you tone it down?

If you had put a slug in my shoe, I would have very humorously fucking knocked you out. That help?

I think it's funny too. I had a similar problem recently. In bed, DH and I were having one of those silly conversations "Do you love me?" "How much?" etc etc. He asked "Why do you stay with me?" I, very tounge in cheek, replied, "Because I can't be bothered looking elsewhere."

Instead of saying anything, he spent the whole night stewing over it because he believed me. I suffered for it all the next day and I didn't even know what I'd done!

To me it was absolutely ridiculous that I could actually have meant it.

I have been much more careful since. I still think he was stupid though. (Hope he doesn't read this)

Obviously just you and me with a juvenile sense of humour, cherry

LadyOfTheFlowers Sat 21-Jul-07 22:39:07

I think Cherry,me and you would get on like a house on fire!
I think fatrs, for example, are still hilarious and the slug thing? I would probably have taken it downstairs and chucked it at Dh!
Sometimes i get into this funny mood where everything is funny, usually for about half an hour, then I calm down. I love it though, I'm glad i can still laugh at silly things, a bit childish I suppose but who bloody cares?! Gees, you only live once!

Once, I was eating a raw mushroom and thought it would be funny to spray it all over Dh's face. Luckily he did laugh when he saw it in the mirror but a bit discusting too I guess! He got me back, may i add.

Sometimes, I fart on his pillow then tell him once he has head on it.

He is pissed off now because I am laughing uncontrollably at that!
Its not what i do that pisses him off but my laughing as i will laugh about it for ages afterwards.

heis always trying to fart on me though.

I thought it was funny

PrettyCandles Sun 22-Jul-07 01:18:33

I think it was very funny, but if it upsets him then you shouldn't do it IMO. It's called mutual respect.

Anniegetyourgun Sun 22-Jul-07 09:25:53

I'm reporting you to the RSPCA for cruelty to slugs.

DirtyGertiefromnumber30 Sun 22-Jul-07 09:31:24

i like the bit when your dh says 'goodbye' to the slug as he flushes him down the loo!

OggsfrogswartsExpress Sun 22-Jul-07 09:41:44

Yes. You appear to have the sense of humour of a six year old

hoolagirl Sun 22-Jul-07 09:42:06

I think thats pretty funny as a one off incident, however if your doing stuff like that all the time it could get a wee bit annoying, sorry.
