If your husband said he was going for a couple of beers...

Straw poll!

If your partner or husband text you at the end of office hours and said he was going for a "couple of beers", how long would you expect them to be? Or how long until you'd expect a text to say "I'm going to be out for longer than I thought"? Or would you just not be fussed, and they get home when they get home?

I’ve done this occasionally, and come home only because the pub closed. I think I’d just expect him at some point later on.

I'd at least expect a text at around 8pm to say he's staying out longer. But to me, a couple of beers would mean that he'd be home before then anyway.

With mine, I'd say about 11pm. A couple can easily turn into a few. Depends on whether they've got work/parental duties the next morning.

Wouldn’t be fussed, they get back when they get back

DP works until 6ish so I would probably expect a text by 8ish if he was staying out much later than that. I think it's courteous to let your DP know if they are waiting in for you.

I wouldn't be fussed, he's and adult he can sort himself out if he needs anything when he gets home.

Oh anything from a couple of hours to home at 2am. He’s a grown man!

In my case, I'd see them in the morning as I'm usually in bed by 10.30. Years of experience has taught me that a "couple" of beers usually translates as at least 5, plus dinner!

Unless we'd agreed on a time to be home or text if he'd be later than that time I would expect him when I saw him to be honest.
What does he usually do?

About 1130 as the pub closes at 11 if it was a weekday. I don't expect a text. I text to say good night though if I go to bed and he is still out

I don't think you can generalise though everyone's situation is different. We have twin toddlers and I can't walk up the stairs very well due to ill health so if he's not back by bedtime my sister has to help me up to bed so I wouldn't be too impressed if he didn't come back until 2am. A few months ago when I was well enough to manage I wouldn't mind much!

After work for "a couple" I'd guess he'd be on the 8:30ish train or I'd expect a text around 8:30ish saying "jihsbdnon ddfinn luf you xxxxcccccv" and I'd go starfish in the bed happily Grin

Wouldn't be fussed. If his evening was going well I'd expect him to stay out, if he was bored he'd come home, and I'd be curious as to why.

It depends. I have to pick him up from the station (rural, no taxis) do get quite pissed off if he doesn't keep me updated and phones at 11 asking for a lift!

Dh does this once in a blue moon so if it wasn’t a total pita I wouldn’t mind when he got back. Vice versa, too.

Any time. I wouldn’t hold him to a time unless I/we had plans. We stay in the town centre so transport home isn’t an issue.

He’d not hold me to a time either. We’ve both been known to lose track because we’re having a great night.

He's an adult, I am not his mother or his jailor.. He would come in when he wants.
But if he is going to be later than pub closing he will txt... I have usually fallen asleep by then.

Either a couple of hours later or 1am... depends how the evening went and who was down the pub really Grin Also depends which pub he goes to - one closes at 12 so if he wasn't home by 12.15 then I'd be a bit worried, the other one has regular lock-ins so could be as late as 3am.

Weekday before midnight and on the weekend before 4am. I'd expect to get a text or call as it would be unusual for him but I would be upset if he didn't.

Would hope he would be home 8 ish but having known him along time would expect 11.30 when the pubs shut i learnt along time ago what a few beers meant and learnt not to worry and enjoyed the peace lol. In fairness I can pop to a friends for a coffee and end up nattering for hours so it works both ways

If my OH goes out after work, tends to be 10.30 to 11ish. Before 9 means it was rubbish.

Report
AnnaT45 · 22/01/2018 22:15

Anything from a couple of hours till midnight. Depends on who is out. I just think to myself he's out for the night when he goes out.

The only time I get annoyed is if he's getting a takeaway and he gets caught up. But that's because I'm always thinking of my stomach

Ha!

"I'm going for a quick drink after work"

Means:

"Don't wait up!"
