What do you do in the evening?

Other than drink wine and say things you shouldn’t when you go on Mumsnet, catch up on housework and watch the box what do you and OH do in the evenings?

Tonight we are playing a board game
--Wish we could get out more and find a decent babysitter though
--
What else is there to do at home other than eat too much and read

I’ve opened wine, ate chocolate, having semi breakdown because my 15 year old is driving me insane. I’m only half joking.

This only really works as an occasional thing but we dig all our old CD's (and vinyl, yes we're really old!) out and relive our youth Grin

That sounds really fun hiding.

ooh yes love that!
Me and DP only have a small age gap so we have a lot of music in common

I’ve been in relationships with bigger gaps and the music thing didn’t work so well

Watching fave films is also great

It kind of works as 'date night' for us too, all we ever did when we were first together was lie around talking and listening to music so it brings us closer and reminds us why we fell in love if that doesn't sound too cheesy Grin

What do you do with your OH though?
Most of those are solitary activities.

Date nights which are essentially late dinner (M&S deal) and me buying a new set of underwear for afters is getting a bit same-y

Really want to keep our bond good.

Drinking coffee and arguing in the morning, then ignoring each other and watching he box isn’t going to make anyone happy forever is it?

Idk what I’m expecting? I just want to keep the passion alive both inside and outside of the bedroom. Or if not passion the communication and bond 😊

Today as it's Saturday I'm cooking (chipotle lamb if anyone's interested) for me, husband and eldest(12) whilst watching Strictly, drinking wine, listening to fireworks, and husband baths/puts to bed our littlest.
We'll probably watch more telly /a film once eldest is in bed. Then have a shag (only manage it once a week these days).
This is our typical autumn/winter Saturday and although we get invited somewhere roughly every other week, I've started making excuses as I love staying home in the evenings most of the time now.

Work odd hours days and nights. If I'm off recently: baking, cinema, eat out, visit family, visit places I've not been to, do hobbies, in summer enjoy walks in countryside, travel, diy, gardening

It depends on if my husband is home or not. When he is, we put our ds to bed, tidy up then sit and watch the shows we watch together. When he's working an evening shift, I do the same, put our ds to bed, tidy up, then sit and watch my programmes that he doesn't watch.

I'm so jealous of everyone. Kids in bed, usually not all asleep until almost 9pm. Clean house then an hour of TV while I pump breastmilk then bed. If either baby wakes up I give them a bottle and settle them too, just for a bit of excitement.

Sigh. I love so many things about small children but I also desperately can't wait to have a few minutes to myself in the evening.

Watch boxsets, movies, or take turns to show each other stuff on YouTube etc. Or play cards or boardgames. We basically just natter all night.

Hi Daisy

I don’t live with my partner and could list lots of nice things I do alone in the evenings but I think you are looking for things that people do together, specifically at home (as it sounds like childcare is tough for you).

When together at home, we cook. It’s nice to plan what we’re going to have, shop for ingredients, share some wine while making it and potter about the kitchen. We can spend hours at the table afterwards talking and eating.

We have some Netflix series we both like and enjoy cosy, rainy Sundays in comfy clothes, under a blanket on the couch.

He trained in massage years ago (I know, lucky me!) and so one of us might buy a nice new oil, candles and we trade massages. Smile Technically, his are better than mine Grin These massages usually end in other.. activities. And that’s nice too!

This is very cheesy and I am probably unlikely to admit it in real life (!) but we read to each other Blush We both studied literature at uni years ago and although our jobs are in completely unrelated fields now, we still love books, reading, poetry etc. So sometimes we have a book that we’re kind of reading together.

I love yoga and do a lot of Home classes through YogaGlo. He doesn’t want to join in for a proper full on Vinyasa Flow class! But is quite physically active and so will do a few minutes of geveral hatha/ stretchy yoga with me. Or will watch with amusement and encouragement if I’m trying to get into a headstand or some other funny pose! Grin

We often walk around the village (don’t know how this works with for you with kids or your location).

Hope this helps with some ideas!

My DF bought a load of Christmas decorations for us to make at hobby craft. Complete with paints, and glitter. Even a few bits for the kids to do.

We usually do something silly like that once every couple of months.

We struggle due to having older children who are not in bed until 9am. As we are both up at 6:00am, Dh and I are always too tired to even watch a film, as effectively by 10-10:30pm.i am shattered and need to go to sleep.

When the kids were younger and in bed by 7 we used to do loads of stuff and our relationship feels more strained due to lack of time together. What do people do who have older children?

If I'm alone or we're chilling separately I usually just watch tv, read stuff on my phone, use colouring books, play piano or play the sims on PC. He is generally glued to the PC playing games if he has downtime alone at home.

If we are spending time together we'll watch something on Netflix or the apprentice together on Wednesdays, or generally snuggle up. We're a new couple (only about 16m) so tbf most of our alone time together is still spent in bed snuggling and kissing and gazing at each other and being bunnies 😂

But yeah I would quite like ideas for fun things to do together at home. No kids but he has a v stressful job with long hours so it seems in the few hours he's home between shifts during busy weeks he barely has time to relax it's just eat and sleep.
