...I have no job, 3 children and we jointly own our house. Oh wise ones, give me some pointers please! I am at my wits end and don't know where to start. Right now he's stormed off and left me with my coffee in Waitrose and I've booked a Premier Inn on my phone because I just can't face going home! He'll use that against me too, going AWOL, abandoning our children blah blah effing blah! I need a check list of who I need to speak to and a plan of action! Our eldest is 14 and I've not worked and been financially dependant on him ever since having her!😳

First person to speak to is a solicitor.

You need to establish as much information about current income and assets (earnings, savings, debts, pension pots, house, other major items) as you possibly can, because it is in the basis of that info they can advise you in possible options for a settlement.

You might also find it useful to see a careers advisor of some sort, to work out what you can do to secure your own future income. You may need time to update or retrain - and having having hard evidence of eg his long it takes to get your qualifications refreshed might be useful in arguments for length of transitional spousal maintenance.

That's really helpful, thank you.

MrsT that sounds really stressful. Is he good with the kids? If so do not feel guilt at all in going to a premier inn - I often dream of this for the break!

Do you have access to financial info? Any family or friends who can help near by? Check the gov websites , CAB, and entiledto for what you will be eligable for and claim straight away.
