Explain twitter to me

OK, so I don't have a twitter account.

My sons school upload to twitter that I look at sometimes and today I went onto my partners twitter, he doesn't seem to post much at all.

Out of curiosity/boredom I started looking through his followers/following list. There are a handful on each list of diferent half naked females, who on their twitter feed haven't posted in years.

Why would he follow them?

Am I right anyone can start following you and you don't nesercerally know?

Is there a reasonable explanation?

What else should I be looking at?

I haven't had any reason to suspect cheating before, but I don't know what they could be.

I can't get access to his phone as it has fingerprint on. Which until now has never bothered me.

There are a lot of porny spam accounts who randomly follow people. I block them, but if he is lazy, unaware or interested in these accounts then that's why they would be following him & why he may follow back.

People use twitter for different reasons. You can follow people you don't know - this makes more sense to me. Facebook is for people I know.

I very much doubt he is cheating on you with twitter people. Do the accounts look spammy or do they seem real? Bear in mind most tweets and interactions are public - you'll be able to see if he has exchanged messages with them. There is private messaging though as well.

I have also been followed by scantily clad young women & I'm a woman who only posts about politics. They are probably fake accounts. Just ignore.

Are the ladies in the 'followers' or 'following' list?

Report
MrsHopity · 29/05/2017 22:34

Hi,

They are in both sections, but are different ones in each. Eg lady A B and C all with bums and boob's out in followed, so I understand this could just be Spammy.

But then in followed lady D E and F all with boob's out in followed

Yes they do look like spam, but why would he follow them.

Iv screen shot but can't attach pic on app. Will go online, one second.

Following I meant. He is following as well as being followed

I think you can set your Twitter to automatically follow when someone follows you

Report
MrsHopity · 29/05/2017 22:38

Does that look like typical spam?

I have random porn people (and investment brokers) follow me. I have to block them.
For me to follow someone like that I would have to proactively follow them - I would have to search for them and then click Follow on their profile. If I follow them, then their posts show up in my feed, like the picture you posted.
I don't get those kinds of pictures at all in my feed since I don't follow those types. It seems like you would have to do something to make that happen. It wouldn't happen passively.

If he's followed them then he has actively done that. You don't follow anyone on Twitter by accident but they can follow you. Any interaction can usually be seen publicly but there is an option to privately message followers Confused

You can set up auto-follow so he may have this. They do look like spammy pornbot accounts. How many followers has he got? I don't get a notification about a bot follower so don't always notice to block straightaway.

Can you look at his messages?

Report
MrsHopity · 29/05/2017 23:27

OK thank you.

But he can always private message, do you need to follow in order to do that?

I'm thinking it's so easy to see/check you wouldn't do it if it was dodgy would you?

He follows 1300 and has 400 followers

Imperial - I have been on his twitter/facebook in the past when we had a computer and things were left open.

Now we only have our phones and he has work laptops, I don't have access to them because they are for work and password protected, not because he hides things.

But phone is the same, I can't get onto his mobile, it's a fingerprint, but that's normal now isn't it? He isn't overprotective with it

Is he actively using Twitter? I rarely use mine, and follow 48 people. A few weeks ago I wrnt on and realised I was following over 500 people...a lot like your pics. It was some sort of spam / hack thing so I unfollowed them all. Next day I was back to over 400..I had change passwords and increase security. Hopefully his is the same.

Thanks magic star

I actually think he goes on twitter quite a bit, but more scrolling through rather than posting

He probably follows them for wank fodder. And he gets followed by similar accounts because he follows porny accounts by choice and they want him to reciprocate their follow in order to have more themselves.

Open your own Twitter account and say something about the annoying porn followers you get and where do they come from? See what he says.

Report
StillHungryy · 29/05/2017 23:54

He could just reactively follow back an d then they unfollow, people desperate for followers do follow for follow but often people unfollow

You may also find he has followed something legitametly which has now changed its name/photo/content like on fb. Likes and follows are "harvested" and sold on. Just ask him about it though!

Hey OP - avid male twitter user here.

You're worrying about nothing, genuinely. Twitter is full of those accounts. They're generally advertising paid porn sites, or sometimes cam sites. Very often, to get into your feed, they disguise themselves as something else first and then change their profile pictures (and content) to something racy later.

I generally unfollow them, or block them, but there seem to me to be a couple of probable explanations:

  1. Your DP is lazy and doesn't use twitter enough to bother blocking them (maybe he just logs on to see what his football team are tweeting about, or to follow reaction to the election, and doesn't tweet or interact much at all).

  2. Your DP is a standard male, like myself, who doesn't object to seeing the odd scantily clad lady in his feed so didn't bother deleting the accounts.

What I'd say is that it's entirely dependent on your personal standards. My missus has no problem with me oogling the occasional lady online (as she says, what's the difference if it's on my twitter feed, or if I'm watching game of thrones), nor does she have a problem with the fact that I occasionally watch porn. If that is an issue for you, then I guess you may need to talk to your DP.

What I would say is that I would be absolutely certain that your DP is not cheating on you on the basis of having these accounts in his feed. The worst case scenario here, as someone said above, is that they're wank fodder. And if so, they're fairly mild wank fodder at that compared to what's available at the click of a mouse.

    Hope this helps.

By the way, when I say "those accounts" I mean the ones you took photos of and posted above. Those are pornbots. You could be a bloody nun posting about God all day and you'd still get some in your feed.

Which is why your kids should not be allowed twitter, incidentally.
