When you worry about everything

I know I need proper medical help and I'm starting cbt soon. On a waiting list.

In the meantime, do people have any tips for staying calm? I can't seem to rationalise anything. I've recently had a horrendous time at work and even though it's not so bad anymore, I can't seem to shake the worry about life in general. :(

Oh Dine! I know exactly how you feel, I've been like this before.

I find reading and quiet time is good. I'm quite an anxious person and have been on mirtazapine, Prozac and beta blockers at the same time! However, since I've met my DH things are a lot better. I also have autism so need routines and rituals to stay calm, sudden changes send me bonkers!

CBT will definitely help. My last therapist suggested making our spare room an escape room. Books, cosy furniture, warm colours. Just a space to hide in when stress takes over. Haven't done it yet as working on the second bedroom but that's going to end up being it now and the little room can keep the ironing board! Make time for yourself, even if it's watching a feel good film, colouring in (yes, adult colouring in books I'm going to get one) or anything you like.

Flowers for you.

I'm an anxious person. I tend not to deviate from the path, but when I have to, I manage to cope well enough, so I know that I'm not overly anxious, but it does take a lot out of me. My mum's a very anxious person, so I'd say I've either learnt it from her or is it hereditary?

I think my way of coping is to be quiet and calm myself down. I've learnt that situations are always resolvable, so there's no need to be worrying all the time. I had CBT many years ago and although it helped me, I don't think it has a lasting effect, so it's probably something you have to keep up with.

Hope all goes well for you. Good luck.
