Should I worry about what others think?

A new guy and his girlfriend started working in my office last year having both just moved into the area. By chance the guy also joined the local gym that I belong to at the same time and we became friends. I was also friends with his girlfriend, but saw her less since she doesn't go to the gym. After a couple of months they split up, which had NOTHING to do with me at all, I wasn't interested in him at all. Me and this guy were certainly just friends at this point. Fast forward 6 months and we have become really good friends then he made a pass at me at the gym. I was actually a bit annoyed afterwards, I have just always seen him as being completely off limits. But now he has opened this can of worms and I have realised that I like him more than I actually thought. If we start anything now it is going to look like something has been going on the whole time and it really hasn't. The girl no longer works there but I still bump into her from time to time and we share a lot of the same friends. I don't want to hurt her at all nor do I want all the gossip that will obviously come with this. What would you do?

Personally I'd never get involved with anyone at work and yes the gossips will be out in full force but then again, why should you care what others think if you have done nothing wrong?

No reason to worry as you wouldn't be doing anything remotely inappropriate.

Don't bang the payroll. Just not worth the agg

Is this for real? They split up 6 months ago she can't control who he now sees

They split up ages ago so don't worry about it. Doubt people will think you're the reason.

Lots of people meet at work!

Just a reminder that these boards are trawled by The Sun and The Mail for copy. Anything you write here can, and sometimes unfortunately does, appear in certain papers and their websites.

Go for it - life is too short.
Many many people meet at work.
