How do you know when any insecurity you feel in a relationship is your own insecurity which you should work on yourself, or if it's coming up as a result of the relationship?

And it is a case of overcoming your own insecurity and not putting it on your partner, or is it something which a partner would try and understand and possibly make adjusts for? And if so what are reasonable adjustments?
