Before I found this board. I didn't realise I was being abused. I knew my relationship wasn't normal and that I wasn't happy, but due to the cycle of abuse I thought that it was my fault and that if I could somehow be "better" then things would change.
I had no idea if the support out there and even less idea that there were thousands of other women out there going through the same thing.
So for any women out there who read this article and see a reflection of their own relationship through that list of tweets, it's going to be okay. You're not alone. The way he treats you isn't acceptable. It's not your fault. You deserve better. And you can leave.

Powerful stuff. Two and a bit years out of a similar relationship and you are right; you can get out and life does get better.
