How much did your engagement ring cost?

Sorry for the nosy thread but I'm genuinely intrigued.. I see huge rocks, cute little numbers and they're all beautiful but I often wonder how people afford them and what's considered a 'normal' amount to spend? I know it used to be months salary in the old days.. Is that still the case?

I think mine was around £250. Nowhere near a months salary and I wouldn't have wanted him to spend that much!

Nothing. I don't have one. Dh says he's very me one for my birthday but we just can't afford it. He was looking to spend around £200.

Mine was 1700, platinum with princess cut diamond flanked by two triangle diamonds.
It didn't feel extravagant but I suppose budgets vary. It was more than a months salary at the time, he sold a car to buy it for me

A months wage which at the time for my dh was £1300 it's perfect for me

I think about £6k......we were paying no accommodation costs for nearly 5 years so DH had a lot saved up. He is normally very frugal so was a huge surprise

About £2k. We bought it in Antigua and it was $2 to the pound.

Got it valued and current value is £5k Shock

My Dh wanted to spend more (£4K), I said no, but it worked out better value abroad than the UK.

£1500 5 years ago. I'd love to have a spare 1500 kicking about now for such extravagances Hmm

£499 and the wedding ring was £280. I've often got more on my ring finger than in the bank so didn't want to go more extravagant. Equally I will be wearing these rings every day for the rest of my life so didn't want to go super cheap.

First one was £150, we were only 18 and 21.

Second one was £5k and I loved it but not the twat who bought it. At the time he had a lot of spare cash that he wanted to flash to his friends.

We didn't get engaged, just went straight to marriage Grin. So I have a ring that is a bit like an eternity ring. Had it made to order, Platinum with inset diamonds spaced aroundt the band. £1800

No idea! It's Welsh gold with an emerald and lovely but never asked nor care what it's monetary value is. Seems mercenary to me.

I think the engagement ring was about £500, the wedding ring (second-hand) was £300.

I was looking at photos of Victoria Beckham earlier. She has had sooooooo many beautiful engagement rings from David. But does it mean that much at the end of the day??

I've had lots of engagement rings from different men. But none of them were very expensive. I don't know what that says about me!

Nowt. Just wearing my Grandmother's wedding band. I'd love an emerald though, so maybe I'll get one when we're rich!

About £300. I've since lost it, so am bloody glad he didn't spend loads. Blush

If you want good value, you can buy a second hand ring and get the stone reset in a setting/band of your own choice.

We did this and all in the ring was valued at twice what we paid.

It's put me off buying 'new' jewellery!

Nothing, I don't have one.

Don't have a wedding ring either, or any other sort of ring. We've been married 15 years. Never needed one :)

£2000 6 years ago. Its gold with an emerald cut emerald and a smaller diamond either side. Its beautiful. My wedding ring was inherited so only cost was the resizing.

I have had a few sneers over the years from people because the main stone is an emerald - asshats.
