Given the title, this could be triggering.

So it has come to my attention that I could share my account with this enquiry.
I thought it was just for those abused in institutions but it also says it's for those who were not listened to by authorities. And that happened to me. The police and school didn't stop it. They knew and didn't stop it Sad

Has anyone done this? Would you? Do you think its safe? I want justice but won't ever get it. I can't report him to the police again, I tried and tried and I won't go through it again. Could this be a way to finally be heard?
I don't want to report to the police and I don't want to be dragged into an enquiry about my abuse, but if I can help others and if it could help bring me justice and closure then I'd do it. But is it safe?
I'm confused and unsure and for that reason leaning towards not to doing it, yet deep down, I really really want to. Where is that coming from?

Brain dump. I'm sorry. Can anyone relate?

The Australian govt have nearly finished an investigation into this very same subject matter. It's title is the Australian Royal Commission. I was interested because I found out that Jehovah's Witnesses were investigated for how they dealt with reported child sexual abuse by members dating back 50yrs. The Catholic church & the Methodists plus other instituions came under investigation too.

Are you speaking about the equivalent that's started/starting in the UK?

I was on a forum with ex JW's who reported abuse. I followed their journey. They all spoke about how they were dealt with dignity & tret compassionately. If the UK enquiry is run along the same lines. I would encourage you to at least reach out. The ARC (Australian Royal Commission ) had counselors who dealt with those who reported. Their enquiries are on youtube. Just google ARC if you're interested.

If you decide you still don't want to proceed afterwards, then don't. Please be kind to yourself Flowers

Thanks so much. Yes this is the UK one and i cant find any info from people who have already done it. I think it could help to be heard by authorities, except I have a deep mistrust of authorities. I think the timing may be poor. I don't think I'm ready. I guess the time I have to decide is limited. Such a big decision.

If you do not take advantage of IICSA then its an opportunity lost that will never occur again. What you say to them will form part of the long needed child protection changes that one hopes will occur as a result of the inquiry's work.

If you contribute, your life will change. It will be challenging. James Rhodes wrote about it in amusingly in his book, but many survivors who have spoken recognise what he says - see images. James gave me permission to use these pages, keep calm mumsnet - I have it in writing. Contact me if needs be.

So, I urge you to consider speaking.

Good luck
