How many of you lovelies drink wine and how much?
Me and my friends at work/uni laugh about it as we are always joking about always having an excuse for wine. Wine Wednesday. Thursday is the new Friday. It's fridayyyyyyy. It's the weekend! Bad day. Good day. The list goes on.....
I'm asking because I'm wondering if I rely on it a little bit too much 🙈

I drink wine but very rarely at home.

I will have a glass or two if having a meal in a restaurant. About once a month I might have a gin and tonic on a Saturday evening.

However, I'm a huge binge drinker and if I go out for cocktails and dancing etc, I'll drink until I can't see Blush. This used to be every week but since having children this is now down to twice a year or so.

Loads. I'm trying to be more sober as it had crept up to between one third and a half bottle a night. Could easily sink a whole bottle on night out.

I'm drinking wine right now but I'm not all that lovely

I have just had two sober nights in a row and am feeling twitchy-I definitely am alcohol reliant.

I go through phases.

Going through a 'way too much' phase right now. Happens every sumer, to be honest. I've had 2-3 glasses a night every night for the last 10 days. Not good.

Sept-Dec I didn't drink more than a couple of glasses a week. Did 'Dry January'.

Have been boozy once about Easter. Partly the lighter evenings/staying up later, partly stress.

Will resolve to be healthier after the summer hols.

1/2 to 2/3 bottle a night. I have battled over the years and it's not so bad atm! Anyway it's too much and I need to have a word with myself again. It's evil stuff

I'm an occasional drinker. It goes straight to my head. So I'd say on average I drink wine once every 3/4 weeks.

I was married to an alcoholic that was enough to put me off drinking any alcohol and haven't touched the stuff for over 3 years

Well not even feeling slightly less guilty.
I drink a whole bottle Friday and another on a Saturday and another on a Sunday. Oh and another on a Wednesday 🙈

Always a couple of glasses on a Friday, probably 3 on a Saturday and another couple on a Sunday. Rarely mon-thurs unless am out and then I'll have two glasses. If on holiday or over Xmas will have a couple of glasses a day. Used to drink loads more but motherhood and age happened.

I was like you for years op, so eventually I gave up drinking at home and made a rule never to buy alcohol to bring home, I just like it too much. Now I only have it on nights out and I rarely go out more than once a week.

Oh sansXsouci what will I do to chill out? I don't go out. It's like it's my best friend! The thought of that depresses me

I bought a bottle of strawberry and lime wine earlier to see what it tasted like, had a sip and realised it tasted nasty so sent DH to the shops to buy a nice rosé as I was so disappointed to not get my glass of wine!

I can go months without having a glass and then have a glass bottle a few times a week. It was my birthday at the weekend so I think I'm still in party mode Grin

Unfortunately I'm tee total as have various health issues and hormonal problems.

In my uni days though a Tuesday afternoon after class seemed like as good a time as any for a little wine session. And a Thursday night. And Friday-Sunday.

Sigh. The good old days.

If you can go a period of time without it I'd say you don't have a problem. 21 days, a month? If you struggle then maybe it's become a bad social habit/emotional crutch. If not then you're just having fun and enjoying this time in your life.

I live in a pub so at the beginning I was drinking every night but now I drink about 3-4 times a week. I can easily do a bottle of wine and don't even feel drunk.

Report
sansXsouci · 04/07/2016 19:59

gemangels the though of it depressed me too, but I just can't not drink pretty much every evening if I allow myself, I get in the habit and feel like I need it. I've tried to cut down loads of times, but the amount I drink always creeps back up. Now I'm out of the habit of drinking at home, I don't even miss it that much, I don't go out that much either, but when I do I'll admit I do really enjoy a drink.

My friend who likes booze as much as me now only drinks at the weekend, which could be a way of doing it - it doesn't work for me though.

You have done very well sansXsouci 👍
I feel that it's becoming a problem and quite sadly the only thing I look forward to. It's getting expensive and I've put on a stone. I feel a bit anxious if I don't have it. Maybe I need to detox....

Thank you gems! Reading a list of scary facts about the effects of alcohol on your health gave me the final push to do something about it and I feel better for it. Good luck if you do decide to detox.

Cut down for a bit and you will really see the benefits. Sleep better, look better, have more energy, be in a better mood.

I used to drink loads but have cut back massively. I did dry January and dry August and dry other months when I felt it was getting too much or when I'd come back from holiday.

I don't want give up drinking wine, but I don't want to put on weight or lose out on feeling OK in the morning so it's just a balance now. I now just have a couple of glasses at home on Friday and Saturday. I might have a glass at Sunday lunch or on holiday or if I went out during the week (very rare).

What make a difference is that I never want to be pissed. I don't mind 'chilled out' but I really don't want to get wasted. Massive waste of my time the next day. Dry months just changed my tolerance and that keeps me under the limit.

It's a bit of a battle though Grin - wine is delicious.

I used to drink 1/2 - 1 bottle a week. Occasionally more. Now none as I have gastritis and oesophagitis and alcohol exacerbates it. So sadly does coffee. Which are the two things that really cheered me up as the mother of 3 small DSs.

Only drink Friday to Sunday but consume a fair amount of alcohol in those evenings. I do a few dry weekends here & there, usually to try to sort out my sleep-booze seriously disrupts my snoozeability...
