Been on there before...very naive at the time. It was definitely an eye opener. Promised myself never again but.....I'm feeling I need to get back out there and can't afford match.
It's got such a reputation. Anyone got anything good to say? Interested in good and bad stories. Need to prepare myself it's a tough old world out there for us singletons.....

I met my now DH on there 5 years ago and we were married 18 months later and we're expecting dc3 any day now! He was a real find!

However, there were so many creepy weird guys who contacted me as well!

No advice really, just take it easy and light and see what there is out there!

I met my husband on POF! Smile
There are some one tracked mind individuals and some cranky creepy folk but I guess you would get that anywhere nowadays. I was just picky from the off and lucky 7 worked for me.
Good luck!

I would say POF is like looking in the barging bin at the shops. You have a lot more (maybe tones) of crap to sift through than other more serious sites (maybe) but if you are persistent you'll bound to find something good in there.

I have been on POF. Come across a few odd women on there. Met a woman of POF last night. We talked about POF and I found out how crazy it was for a woman on POF. She gets loads of weirdos message her. So of the messages are very odd. But there must be some OK me out their.

People are on POF looking for all sorts of things. My main advise is make it VERY CLEAR what you are after. Put it in the description as well as the here for box.

Met DH nearly 8 years ago on POF. We were both looking for companionship and someone to enjoy dinner and cinema dates with and found so much more.

We emailed each other for 6 weeks before we met . There was always an email every day. There was never any messing around. He was my second date and I was his third.

If he was in the bargain bin...then I got a bargain. I like that. I love a good bargain me.

In our almost 8 years together we've been all over. Florida twice. Mainland Spain twice. Canary islands 13 or 14 times. Scotland 4 times. Wales about 16 times. Cornwall twice. We have had three caravans . Travelled all over the uk apart from The SE and from some reason Lincolnshire...lol.

We've had a wonderful, wonderful time together, theatres, cinemas, meals out, days out...you name it.
Everything culminated in our wedding last year on Tenerife with all my children, grandchildren and friends. A memory I'll treasure for ever.

Things are a bit stressed at the moment. He had a stroke at new year and can't drive, so I've got added pressure but he's done so much for me that I'm pleased to step up to the plate for him.

Be sure to dive right to the bottom of the bin.....it's where the real bargains are to be found.

Another positive for POF here Grin

But yes, there is a very mixed bunch as you would expect. There are no 'gates' keeping certain parts of society at bay!

I got a lot of 'weirdo wants to meet you' notifications, but just ignored them.

You can also hide your profile if you want to just browse for a while.

Good luck!

like you i couldnt afford the expensive pay sites i paid for 3 months on match and got not one single message only winks, i met my current partner on POF and am very happy, yes you get idiots and weirdos but you soon learn to spot them, theres the ones who have no intention of meeting, 3 messages no meet got binned off by me, always meet for a coffe in the afternoon if no spark only wasted an hour, anyone making weird remarks on the first date got binned, anyone who didnt contact after first meet well cest la vie off my radar list,

I'm on POF and Tinder. I think I actually prefer Tinder..
I was also on for a while & I was very naïve - now I'm back. I don't take it too seriously, I am not looking for 'The One', I don't answer messages 'to be nice', I'm prescriptive in what I do not want!
I do go on a lot of dates, I meet a few weird men, I've met some nice ones. Most importantly, I have fun. I meet NEW people.

I met my dp on there a year ago. We joke now about how people who meet on POF and have sex on the first date don't last Wink.

I'd met my previous bf on there too and went for lots of dates with people from POF, Tinder and Match. I didn't find any difference between sites in terms of what the men were like, I found all sorts of people on all three.

Good Luck!

Sounds good Northumberlandlass... I'm thinking it's not the site it's what mindset you go into dating and like you and others have said. Know what you want and you don't....

Completely your mindset Gem. I'm enjoying it this time around.
On my profile I have "I will not respond if 1) you do not have a profile pic 2) you call me 'babe / princess / gawjus (?) / Sexy' 3) your message contains poor grammar....
I know it may come across as cheeky, but it separates the wheat from the chaff Grin

Met my DH of 4 years on POF 7 years ago. He is the absolute love of life and I feel so unbelievably lucky to have met him.

My advice is set your filters for receiving messages really narrow to avoid the creepy old guys and horny young guys sending you dodgy messages. AND only respond to the messengers that have clearly read your profile and written a personal message just for you.

Worked for me! Smile

Good luck!

I met my partner of pof. Loads of nutters but I tried match too and that was just the same people that were on pof anyway! My advice is go on loads of dates, don't talk to people online too long before meeting them. You don't know if you genuinely like someone till you actually meet them. Coffee dates are the best. They can easily be extended if they are good but you can make a sharp exit if they aren't. Dinner can be awkward and drinks are a BAD idea! Grin

I met my DP on POF at the start of last year. We've just bought a house together and I'm pregnant Smile

There is a lot of dross to wade through though. I hid my profile and contacted or favourited ones I liked so managed to escape all the 'Hi Sexi' unwanted type messages

Agree with others about not talking too long before meeting to avoid any false expectations. Started messaging my DP on a weds evening and we met a few days later on the Sunday

Some profiles have only one pic maybe two. It's not shallow to ask for more pics? Or is it rude?
