Would I be overreacting to say no to my sister?

We live in different countries. Every year she returns to our home country to visit her children who are grown, and their children. They are in a different city to me.

This year I suggested that I take my children to meet her and her children/grandchhildren to a children's event and picnic (it's hot here) and she was keen.

Now she has messaged to say that actually none of them can make it but she'd love a ride back with me so she can visit a friend of hers in my city.

To be honest I feel like cancelling. I don't want to drive for 4 hrs to give her a lift to her friend's. I'm disappointed the kids' day thing isn't working out but more than that, that she has no interest in spending time with me and only sees me as an opportunity for a free ride.

Or am I being over sensitive?

Thoughts appreciated but please be kind as I am already sad about this.

So you wouldn't be going if she wasn't coming over?

That would upset me too. I'd just say sorry you won't be going if no one else can make it but you look forward to her visit when she's in town. If you feel like cancelling, you should - that feeling is telling you that something isn't right about the situation.

Cheeky mare is just after the lift. No is a complete sentence.

Yeah I'd cancel. Tell her too...say, "I was only doing it so I could spend some time with you. I'm not going to drive for four hours just to give you a lift to your friend's place. Maybe next time eh?"

ImperialBlether - no I am making a special trip to see her.

coveredinsnot - Thanks... she doesn't visit me. It's just a thing in our family that I do the running.

pictish - Thanks. I think I'll say something along those lines. It's been good to have feedback, I actually feel a bit better already!
