Relationships

Is this all I can expect from OLD, fed up already!

I've been divorced for six years and never had a date since. I'm 46, people say I'm attractive . I want a relationship but don't go out much to find someone.

So my single best friend and I have decided to dabble in some OLD. We've both joined POF and its been interesting to say the least.

I look better in the flesh than in a photo and I'm not fussed on my photos. I've had a few messages but they were weird (or it may be normal). This is what I've had:

Ello sexy
Nicceeeeee!
xxxxxxxxx
Looking good darl ...
You got more pics

I replied to one guy and he didn't ask one question about me or answer any with more than one word. Why, when he messaged me? Pics guy, I've got two on there, they are ok so why ask for more, you can see me.

I've had hardly any interest and I don't think I'm hideously ugly! I feel sad as my friend has had loads of interest, and our profiles are practically the same apart from photos of course.

Am I wasting my time on POF? I can't really afford a paid site unless they are really worth it.

I just feel everything is based on immediate looks and nothing else, so shallow. I've been polite and friendly with them all and not stand offish!

Any tips for more success please?

The more you go on the site, the more prominant your profile will appear, and the more messages you will likely receive. Messages will vary from brief, to wacky to downright naughty. You need to develop a bit of a thick skin with OLD. There's a dating chat thread on here which begins with a list of brief advice/tips that are useful, so go and have a look if you can.

You might do better with a paid site, I think as a daily amount they don't work out too badly, if you think of it like that.
EHarmony is, I think, more about personality and less emphasis on looks.

There are other free sites, OKcupid, happn and Bumble for instance. POF is a bit of a meat market (to say the least).
