Is anyone out there still happily together with their dh many years after a fast engagement?

yes.

We met 15 years ago (next week). He told me I'd be his wife one day. In his eyes we were engaged that moment.

I did marry him 5 years later and we'll be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary this coming summer.

He never really asked me to marry him. We started dating seriously about 6 months after we met. He says there was never anyone but me in his mind and for him the moment he knew we were meant for each other is when he considered us to be together. He was has always been quite respectful of me.

But we do have our issues and I've posted about him quite a fair bit. He has Aspergers and I often find myself at my wits end. Eventually he comes around and things get sorted out.

Technically I was engaged after 13 days. I say technically because we didn't tell anyone - they would have thought we were mad! We staged a fake engagement a couple of years later, and as far as anyone in real life knows that's when we got engaged, but for us it was definitely from 13 days.

Still together 6 years later.

My grandparents got married 6 weeks after meeting, and stayed very much in love til my Grandfather died about 65 years later.

My parents married 3 months after meeting. They celebrated their golden anniversary last year!

DH and I got engaged after a couple of months, married a year later. It'll be our 13th anniversary this year.

Sometimes you just know!

We got engaged after about 10 weeks (although we knew each other before we started dating) and married 14 months later. We are still very happy.

I'm dead impressed at the 13 days! Valentines is just around the corner & I am bursting. I know this is it.

How long have you been dating Lappy?

How quick is quick? I'd say anything under 3 years was. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Good luck lappy

In my defence it was a very drunken pronouncement, and we had known of each other for years, if not really known each other (friends of friends situation). It worked out well for us, but not telling people was definitely the right decision. When we actually told people we were engaged they were genuinely happy for us, whereas if we'd done it at the 13 day mark we'd have no doubt got a hell of a lot of incredulous responses!

I knew he was the one after two months. Took another two years and seven months to get engaged and nine months after that to marry. Together 20 years.

I knew the night I met my husband that I'd marry him (if he'd have me). Bought a house at 1 year (got engaged at same time) and married one year later (just to give us time to book the right venue as it was very popular). Now 23 years married.

A quick engagement is fine if you don't get married for ages. I got married three months after meeting first Dh and it was a fucking disaster.

We got engaged 8 weeks after we met. We married 51 weeks after we met, were engaged for 43 weeks.

We've been married for coming up 6 years now, 1 DD with another on the way. We're happy.

Got engaged after a couple of months. Still together after 31 years. Married for 28.

I don't understand why you'd get engaged after 11 weeks but then have a long engagement. Surely it would be better to do it the other way round? Confused

Why the long engagement though?
If you wouldn't marry him tomorrow (in terms of feeling and willingness to commit even if there are practical reasons to wait) you shouldn't - IMO - get engaged. Otherwise, what does it mean?

Yes, we knew after a week that we'd be getting married. We didn't tell our families and friends for another year as we were young and they'd have been sceptical.

That was 18 years ago, we got married 15 years ago and had our 3rd baby last week.

What is the point in rushing into getting engaged, but having no plans for marriage any time soon?

My brother got engaged 5 weeks after his first date with his wife. They got married 12 months later. Been married for 22 years.

Yes I knew the night we met we were "right" together. Despite an aversion to marriage initially (DH provided three engagement rings over the years, the first after six weeks Grin) we did marry eventually and have been together over 20 years.

Being honest, we did face a lot of scepticism at first as we were seemed very different to each other (on the surface), I was young and we came from different backgrounds and everyone didn't think it would last...I would say nowadays we are probably the happiest married couple I have ever met, bar my paternal grandparents!

I love him very much and DH still wishes we had run off to Gretna Green after six weeks!
