starters first time posting on here, secondly I don't know if I'm posting it on the right place.

we live in a house that has another one attached to the back of us (so we have no back garden - just so you get the pic) and on our left a block of flats, all the walls are connected to some form of living arrangement.

currently as I type this, I can hear a load of shouting, screaming, crying, and banging. I'm not sure if it's someone in the flats or the house behind us (I think it's the house as we always hear them banging up the stairs. anyway after every bang or the man shouting aggressively I hear the woman scream "no, no, no" or "ouch" or her crying. do you think what I am hearing is domestic violence or just a very heated argument. also to add in the mix, if it is the house they also have a young child too.

I was thinking of calling the local police but if I'm being over the top and it's nothing I will feel bad for calling them out but if it is that and I don't call them it could end bad. I would ask my OH but he's fast asleep and has a long day at work tomorrow. and I'm heavily pregnant and everytime there's a bang or a shout the LO kicks me causing pain so I can't sleep.

so basically I don't know what to do so need people's advice.

I'm just about to call them as it's all gone quiet and I'm rather worried what's happened. I'll let you know what they say.

You're not being over the top. Please make the call.

Call the police and tell them whats happening and don't forget to mention there's at least one child there too. Ss might need to be informed.

Do you know the address of the house behind you? I know the name of thd road that is behind us, but wouldn't have a clue what number our over-the-back neighbours are. Good luck; hope the poor woman gets some help.

God of course you should call them.

I can't believe that someone needs to ask on Mumsnet whether or not they should call the police when they hear a woman screaming 'no' and 'ouch'.

What would you want your neighbour to do if it was you?

tinyme135 · 06/12/2015 08:51

I only wanted to know in case I was wrong.

I phoned them and they couldn't come out as I was unsure of which house (even though I'm sure it was the one behind us). they went they can't go round knocking on people's door and once I know for sure they will come out. they stopped shouting after that

Please find out and call them back OP! Could you not have gone out of your house and walked round the back to find out the street name/number?

Report
tinyme135 · 06/12/2015 12:08

like I said originally we have flats and houses connecting to us so I could accuse one person and find out its someone else. I have phoned them back and they said they're going round to check up on the house who I think it is and contact me with what they're going to do if they are

Have you heard anything else tiny?

I had this once, I did call the police after it went quiet (someone may have been killed!) and they had both (a couple) nocked 7 bells out of eachother.

Call them and they can decide what to do

Some call handlers have very weird ideas. Course they can come out and will even if it's a case of knocking every door it could possibly be. I'm glad you called back

Record it next time (and sadly, there will be a next time). Even if you're not sure of the house you'll have proof that some thing's going on. Mumsnetters in the past have said they wish neighbours had called the police as they were unable to, so you did the right thing.

tinyme135 · 06/12/2015 19:37

I never thought of recording it but will next time.

I often hear my neighbours have a few crossed words. young couple- no children. It's usually of shut up you twat or get out then!! Occasionally it's been loud and Iv knocked on the door to check she was OK as he's a bit mouthy and to remind them I have small children and I do not want them hearing such language or verbal aggression.

Well I had enough last week when they were screaming at each other, the wording was awful and so much banging and thudding. He screamed several threats to kill her.. It sounded like it was in my living room!! Scared my youngest a lot!! I phoned the police.. They came out, turned out when he screamed il fucking kill you at her then he punched her in the face!!

The thud was her landing against her lounge wall.. I provided the police with a statement and recent log of their previous arguments, time, date ect.. As id contacted them before about their arguments and they told me to log them.

He was arrested.. Don't know anything else after that, however he's back in her house and I'm just awaiting another incident!!

Bloody scary stuff really, if I didn't call the police he may have beaten or even killed her.

Keep an ear out and call the police at the slightest thing as you never know what's going on behind closed doors, that poor child Sad xx

Wow, your local police sound a bit crap tbh.

I called police recently for similar. It's totally our business, we have to do this. Next time don't hesitate - and there will be a next time Sad

I did it for her, I did it for their baby - but I also did it for me: I don't have to live with that shit. Took me a while to realise that.

Redglitter · 06/12/2015 21:32

To be fair springy if the police spoke to the couple concerned and they've denied anything happened there's not much they can do. It's not like they didn't come out. They did

I think I'm going to keep a log and call the police every time I hear something but there has been next to no banging today so I don't know what to make of it. will have to see what it's like when I go to bed.

My neighbours have been quiet since - but I think they took him away to cool down in the cells for the night, judging by the way he kicked off when they knocked on the door.

Fair enough red - but the call handler was very encouraging, thanked me for making the call (112), reassured me i'd done the right thing, wished more people did it.
