How long do you chat before arranging to meet someone??

Meet sooner rather than later. Maximum a couple of weeks. You cannot truly get a good idea about someone until you meet them. Weeks and weeks of emailing, texting and chatting on the phone can set you up for massive disappointment when you do eventually meet.

Oh good. I'm the sort of person I'll meet someone and know within minutes if they're my kind of person wasn't sure if I was being too hasty or not Hmm

If a meet is not on the cards after a week it's a No from me.

Oh and I'm thinking of breaking away from the norm and going fishing or something! Could be a laugh or a disaster who knows lol

Chatted for an eve and he suggested going for a coffee and I thought woah that's all abit fast so left it a week spent a few more days chatting and I'm swaying towards a meet. As lady above said that's the only way to truely know if it's a no go or not!

1st meet should be something quick like a coffee - not long say 2 weeks after you start chatting then take it from there - good luck!

Agree, meet quickly or you end up wasting time talking to people that turn out to be completely unsuitable. Quick meeting like a coffee so you can escape if you want to. I met DP online, we've been together 3 years tomorrow and ds is 4 months old yesterday.

ASAP. Texting builds up an emotional attachment and yet you don't know them. Just meet for a quick coffee in local coffee shop.

I met my partner through OLD, 8 months ago, we started talking on a Sunday, exchanged numbers after a few days and started calling each other and had met up with each other after a couple of weeks and it's going really well, I'd say the quicker you make the transition from OLD to RL the better, you get to know how a person actually is in RL rather than how they present themselves online. It doesn't have to be anything to formal like others have said just something casual so you can run like hell if he's a complete loon.

I met my hubby online. We talked for about 8 weeks before meeting.

Married 2 years, together for 6.

Sorry to hijack your thread op, but also how do you get to the meeting stage? I am talking to a bloke now, we are a match on the 'wants to meet you' feature. He seems keener than me, but hasnt mentioned meeting, and neither have I. Any suggestions or just wait and see x

Usually id say sooner the better. With DP though we ended up talking for about 6 months before we met. Because we'd developed this really intense friendship we ended up moving in together a few months later and I fell pregnant around the same time. It was very weird how it worked out but at the time it seemed totally normal Confused

Paula,

"Do you fancy meeting at Costa one lunchtime this week?" should do the trick Wink

Obviously if you don't work near each other then adjust as appropriate!

Thanks pocket. That is my inclination, to suggest a casual coffee, but didn't know if it was ok for me to suggest it. Will do. I agree that sooner rather than later seems best.

Paula, there are no rules on OD. Just ask if he fancies meeting for a coffee. You will then eliminate the marrieds, attention seekers etc. Saturday lunchtime I find is good as most people are free and it isn't too serious. Good luck.
