Update on the court case against my abusive ex

I posted about this under a few different names this past year or so but I really wanted to update you all because of the amazing amount of support I've had.

Ex was charged with 2 counts of rape and one of assault by penetration. He denied it in police interviews.

Today he was in court and he pleaded guilty!!! The relief is overwhelming, I actually can't stop crying.

I just wanted to thank you all because without Mumsnet I wouldn't have had the courage to report him. Flowers

I'm so pleased for you. I'm sure I read a thread where you posted about this and how worried you were. I hope he receives the sentence he deserves.

Flowers I am delighted to read your news - what a relief for you and a what a testament to the strength of your case against him which has led to him pleading guilty to secure a lighter sentence.

When will he be sentenced and have you been asked to prepare a victim impact statement?

Here's to the power of mumsnet Wine and another toast Wine to your courage and may you go from strength to strength, Siri.

Ikea, I was very worried. I suffer with bad anxiety and the worry of having to stand up in court and talk about what happened was making me ill.

The police officer who dealt with the case is coming out next week to do a victim statement with me. She has been amazing. I don't know how to thank enough for putting together such a strong case against him. She said not many men plead guilty to charges of rape.

I'm not sure wether to go to court to see him sentence. Part of me wants to be there to show him I'm not afraid any more.

Were you at the Court today?

Being present when he's sentenced will send him a powerful message. In addition, it may enable you to gain some closure on what has obviously been an horrendous ordeal for you.

That said, only you can weigh up the pros and cons of attending and are best advised to do what feels right for you.

Thank you all.

I wasn't there today but I do think being there when he's sentenced will bring me closure.

I can understand you wanting to get closure-could you take someone with you for a bit of support?

Thank you! You may have just saved several other women from going through the same thing in the future. Flowers

goddessofsmallthings · 13/08/2015 00:53

How have you reached that conclusion, whitshernam?

The number of crimes of a sexual nature reported to the police increases annually and, as Siri has made clear, not many men plead guilty to charges of rape.

What Siri has done may, hopefully, inspire other women to report crimes of a sexual nature which have been perpetrated against them and to resolve to stand firm in the event that they are required to give evidence at trial.

I think she is referring to the fact that the perpetrator is less likely to attack other women if he has a prior conviction - and certainly while he is in prison.

Flowers to you, Siri. So much admiration for your courage.
