Really worried about my friend in USA...her husband has just left her...

Just wondering if anyone has any advice.

My dear friend moved to USA from Britain with her husband and two children a few years ago. He has now met another woman and left her.

Her children have special needs and she is reeling from the stress of it all. I'm really worried about her and desperately trying to offer sensible, practical advice to help her stay strong and get through this awful situation.

Does anyone know of any good solicitors either here in UK or in NY area that could help with this sort of thing?

She is such a tough cookie but has been through so much already...any words of support or common experience that we could share with her??

I am emailing her but wonder is there anything more I can do to support her?

Try to find similar Mumsnet type forum in the US and ask for advice there?

Does she have a roof over her head?

You could ask on living overseas on here.

Does she want to go back to the uk?

You could try the British Expats forum. They are a helpful lot!

Poor thing! I'm sure some MNERS will point you in the right direction.

All the best of luck to her, and how lovely of you to post this. :)

I'm in NY. Where is she? Is she on a GC or a spousal visa? I know of someone who went through the same thing. I can ask who she used for the legal stuff?

Thanks for your replies.

She is closer to Philadelphia than NY. I haven't asked her about green card status but reckon she is probably on spousal visa. She is working very part time, so maybe would need a green card for that, so I could be wrong.

TheZeeTeam, any recommendations would be great, thank you.

I lurk on this forum

www.twopeasinabucket.com

It's primarily a US Scrapbooking forum, but if you post on the NSBR board, I've seen many threads on there advising women on their rights in divorce/EA relationships/planning to leave etc, ladies as fierce as MNs, and very knowledgeable about US law. Very similar to the relationships board here, but american

She should post on the www.youbemom.com forum. They have a local Philadelphia thread. Lots of snark but she will find very good advice there. I hope she is ok.

Another good option is the forum on DCurbanmom.com

It stated off as a DC site but has grown well beyond that. YOu might get advice there and don't need to create a profile to post.

Brilliant.

Thanks ever so much for your suggestions, this is just the sort of thing I was looking for.

I shall forward the details to her today.
