Sex toys to spice things up?

(27 Posts)

I have 2 young children so its hard to find some alone time with my partner. I want things to be spiced up a bit in the bedroom so was thinking sex toys. I have been looking on a few sites and found some cheap sex toys at Strawberry Blushes www.strawberryblushes.co.uk/categories/Cheap-Sex-Toys/. Does anyone have any recommendations for buying sex toys for the first time?

PS. I dont want to spend a fortune at first, want to try it out first. Thanks.

assuming you're not spamming...

i) I'd be careful about introducing anything you haven't discussed
ii) lot of cheap sex toys are crap

Possible TMI a range of toys are underpowered.
From recommendation by DW she liked Magic Wand and Eroscillator (both of which work very well on both partners, whatever sex they are)

From my perspective we got a "realistic" vibrator which was somewhat intimidating for me, and not very effective for her. That's relegated to the dusty box...

I agree with onemorechap lots of cheap ones are crap. Spend your budget on quality as opposed to quantity. I like to give www.lovehoney.co.uk a browse, cheaper and a broader range than Ann Summers.

Make sure this is something you both want, I've heard of many guys who find themselves intimidated and put off by them.

Thankyou for your advice. We have spoken briefly about it before but maybe we should look into it more together and decide on a toy that we would both like.

Try the Hitachi wand. It's been reduced to £39.99. (I'm led to believe)

Keep the box though just in case you don't like it. You can always pass it on to an aunt (once cleaned) as a back massager for Christmas.

Spice things up. What a tragic expression.

OneMoreChap Wed 27-Nov-13 14:01:52

Why so tragic?
More power to a woman who wants to improve her sex life, I'd have thought. Rather than accepting it's boring or tiresome, she's trying something to improve it.

WWYD?

Nothing wrong with some toys in the bedroom, IMO.

Firstly, the other posters are right. Please discuss this with your partner first. It's good fun shopping for them together (on line or in real life)

Assuming your partner is happy then;
It depends what you like, vibrating or not. Lovehoney have reviews which are worth a read before you buy.

Our Favorites are;
A glass Dildo with spiral detail
A silicon dildo with suction cup
A G-Spot Vibe

Make sure you get an oil free silicon friendly lube. We don't like the Durex ones but can reccomend some of the Ann Summers ones.

I think that if you need sex toys then sex must be crap

Also there is 20% off at Ann Summers with the code TWENTY

xx

Why did I put kisses hmm

A martini by itself can be amazing, but an olive adds a little extra.

"I think that if you need sex toys then sex must be crap"

Not really - just gives things another dimension . You don't have to use them all the time . Sometimes it's just the bit if fun, diversity you need to get talking/ laughing and change of scenery . Just looking at 'Lovehoney' and reading the reviews is fun

Possible TMI but I suffered from ED and it took a huge amount of pressure off to know that was a completely reliable way to not disappoint.

Now used occasionally at either party instigation

Really, you think.
My sex life is fantastic thank you very much enhanced by some adventurous fun.
Some people are not as adventurous as others.

I love the variety in our sex life. It's so common for people to say that there is a honeymoon period for sex lives and relationships seeing this as normal and so things settle into regular familiarity, and less frequent sex. After 19 years and still wanting to be together every night possible, we certainly aren't bored and can't wait until our daughter has gone to bed! Of course there are many times when we see sex as only an expression love but luckily enough for us we also enjoy lusty raw animal sex too and have fun finding new things to do together.

How many of those who don't try new things ever have raw animal lusty sex where you can't wait to rip each other's clothes off?

joysmum SOOO jealous. 2 months since sex. Argh

R&B - Step away from the threadgrin!!!!!!!!

As a lot of other people have already said a huge amount depends on the couple and what works for them.

If possible shop for them together as Namechange98 suggests. Me and my fiancée tended to find that part the most erotic and once we got to the bedroom the toys just got in the way a bit*. That didn't stop the sex being great - just that for us the afternoon of shopping and discussing possibilities turned out to be our toy (if that makes sense) and made the toys a bit redundant.

I'd really recommend having a read of Dan Savage's advice column (partially because I think everyone should anyway). He has a great response to a correspondent who had a similar question to yourself, hopefully some of it may be of some use.

*(may possibly be because we were buying cheap!).

cjel Wed 27-Nov-13 21:08:39

Big yus that cheap toys break! Me and dp have a very good sex life ty but add toys to spice things up, hate that attitude so much! Personally i think youve probably not found the right toy for you just yet wink

redundantandbitter Wed 27-Nov-13 21:32:39

Thanks for the offer of your pants cjel but that sounds weird even for me

Back to sex toys - my exp bought a toy from love honey - birthday present - but I wasn't so keen, it was something he preferred me to use on him. All fine. Then he bought another slightly different shaped one you that both of used. My lasting memory of using it is my birthday in a fancy hotel. It got cast aside in the heat of passion, next morning left the room in a tip and went out for the day. Came back to find the room tidied and 'toy' on the bedside table. I could have died with embarrassment. Hey ho . Big yes to choosing together!

cjel Wed 27-Nov-13 21:39:02

HaHa it is pretty gross the thought of sharing pantsblush

Onmyown3 Wed 27-Nov-13 21:51:48

Try Anne summers for toys, don't try get anything too cheap online as could be rubbish.

You can get some great dressing up outfits and accessories on eBay etc though.

My dh and I have been together since we were 15 and are forever trying different things even now, to keep the spark alive ;)
