Looking at his beautiful sleeping face. Hoping he could just stay 8 forever. Just generally loving him too much.

The only good thing about insomnia. Smile

Enjoy those moments while you can. I am coming to the end of a 12hr night shift and would love to be sharing a pillow with my 3 kids right now......actually, any pillow is seeming attrative at the moment!

Might as well have my pillow, the use it is, can't sleep!

Its horribe not being able to sleep, at least you have a nice view, and for the record...you cannot possibly love him too much! He is a very lucky little boy.

Last time I did that, he gave me head lice.

Totally worth it.

So nice to know that feeling continues. I wished mine would stay 2 months, 5 months, 8, 12, 2 years ... But cannot imagine wishing that of an 8 year old. Sounds like I will though!

(Disclaimer: I'm sure your 8 year old is amazing.)

My 2 year old is poorly at present so spent the night in with us where he tried to use my head as his pillow all night!!

Just woke with my 3 year old snuggled against my back and my 1 year old with her hand ony face. Wonderful. The elbows and feet keeping me awake aren't so wonderful but their little warm bodies and faces this morning were worth it. I want time to stop too. I want them like this forever!

Still feel exactly the same way and mine are in their twenties!

Aw fab.. Feel less sentimental about moving DS2 into his cot if I'm going to feel the same when he's moving out altogether!

Well I did fall back to sleep, which meant I was so tired I missed the 7:15 alarm! Luckily my 13 yr old DS woke me at 08:00! Rushed morning.
And he too (13) still looks cute when asleep! As tall as me and when he gives me a hug it's Grin, makes up for the grumpy teenage voice of doom!

They're gorgeous at any age, but one of the best things about them is that they don't stay the same. They're always growing and learning and passing milestones and astonishing you with new things they can do (not always in a good way!). Yet somehow they are still that little child they used to be as well. My dear little baby DS1 has just become a daddy himself, and that's the most amazing thing of all.

Aaah Annie...congrats :) Flowers

You're right...I've wished they would stay the same as they are 'right now' since dd1 was a week old...each day, week, month brings new things.

DH and I gave up trying to make them stay in own bed with first born. Too traumatic. We play 'musical beds' most nights! They tend to sleepwalk in. We ride the wave. Kids are only on loan to us. They grow and leave, hopefully to pastures new and exciting. I moan like heck most days but luckily I have these epiphanies that keep it real.

Mine is 11 and at secondary school and I still wake up most mornings with him lying next to me. I'm making the most of it. It won't last too much longer :(

Thanks mamma Smile

Ooh, I got an attack of the warm fuzzies then. Very uncharacteristic.

Congratulations, Annie - how wonderful!

Agree about wanting each stage to last forever. When I say to my mum that this (whatever age it is) is the best age, she reminds me that I've said that about every age so far.

This thread has given me the warm fuzzies too...ain't we all lucky??

We are, very lucky. I spent the first night of my son's life just awake and in awe gazing at him as he slept, and I still get that feeling now.

Aaah, that first night after birth. Nothing like it. I watched both of mine all night too. Should have hit some kip while I had the chance...cos I haven't slept since :) ha!

Wallison · 04/11/2013 11:24

Hahaha! Yes, it didn't really set me up very well for the months of night feeds that followed! I was just utterly fascinated with him though. Still love watching him sleep now.

Our 3 year old still sneaks in with us most nights. I love his sleeply little 'can I have a cuddle' at 2am. Those little stolen moments when you can watch them sleep are part of the bonus for all the hard work and trying bits.
