My lovely friend is putting a toe into the water for the very first time.

She's very kind and gentle and doesn't have a great track record of picking men. I'm married so long I am clueless! But I know lots of you on here use different sites. So - what wisdom can you give me to share with her please?

She's only using free sites at the moment, she mentioned smooch as one of them.

Thanks all - heading to work but will look in later.

There is a Dating thread - currently on number 53, where the combined wisdom and support of all of us daters can be had. Join in, or point her towards it.

The general rules for online dating though are:
1 Develop a thick skin;

  1. Do not invest emotionally too soon;
  2. It's all BS until it actually happens;
  3. Trust your gut instinct;
  4. If it is not fun, stop

Some of us have had miserable times followed by finding someone wonderful. Others of us still have miserable times :) and some have got lucky very quickly. There's no hard and fast advice but she or you can ask questions and get answers from old hands and newbies.
