Hi,
I am new to this so bear with me!
I am hoping i can hear some success stories from people who have been to relationship counselling?
I have a 2 year old daughter and have been in my relationship for nearly 4 years.
I work 3 days a week 9-5 and OH works mostly 6 days a week about 12 hours a day. We have a good relationship, apart from the fact when we argue, we cant communicate properly.. it ends up turning into a point scoring match and competing who does more. We both think were right and defend what we believe.. we dont seem to be able to get through to each other and understand. it like banging my head against a brick wall - everytime we argue we go round in circles and dont actually get anywhere. We have both had enough, as we had such a bad patch last year and seemed to come through it being happier than ever.. however this is a dapener on things.. the past week we have had 'some time apart' sad thing is i know we work, and we are happy, just these arguments we cant see us ever working and getting through.

I want to consider going to couple counselling so they can help us understand each other in a different way - ( if i can get him there!)

has anyone been and found it successful?

would love to hear from you!

thanks

It sounds as if it will work for you - they try lots of good exercises and you have already pinpointed the problem. Sadly my OH would not let the process work on him, as he is determined to be alone. But if the two of you are willing, then it is very very good if you get the right counsellor. I had a lovely woman called Julia for Relate in Henley. If my OH had been more open, she would have really helped. Sadly, we only had a couple of sessions.

Didn't work for us.. but ex h had already made his decision & was just going to tick a box. He used the sessions to his advantage, even getting the counsellor on side against me. :( Give it a try, but use a woman, not a man. Good luck. :)
