Well actually, not really sure that I've ever known what to do, so any advice most gratefully received. Have been single for 4 years and want to break the 'habit' of being invisible as far as having a relationship is concerned.....anyone else feel like that??

Don't feel like that but thought I would bump your post up to the top again to see if you get some more responses.
What have you tried in the last four years? Internet dating? Meeting new people?

Hiya, feeling a little bit the same here, did have a year long relationship which ended in May but aside from that have been single 4 years.

I have just joined up with meetup in the hope of improving my social life because I'm really very isolated for various reasons.

I also like okcupid as a dating site because it makes you think about who you are and what you like etc to do a profile, and I've met and spoken to some nice people from there.

That's about the extent of my experience so far! Oh I'm also studying with the OU and get to meet people with that for monthly tutorials. Might be worth considering if there's something you want to learn.

I think meeting people is the first hurdle, then if they are right for you as a friend or more then it should flow pretty naturally.
