pigleto Fri 05-Sep-08 11:31:14

I have been listening to radio4 for 6 months solidly. I am an addict.

Threadwworm Fri 05-Sep-08 11:31:33

Hoorah! I always think of Mumsnet as the internet sister of Woman's Hour.

WendyWeber Fri 05-Sep-08 11:32:36

At last, a proper home for Archers listeners smile

southeastastra Fri 05-Sep-08 11:34:53

hoorah, i;ll bring down the topic with talk of radio london and planet rock grin

Threadwworm Fri 05-Sep-08 11:35:09

I've listened to Radio 4 all my life. I used to come home from school for dinner, and listen to Kenneth Williams on Just a Minute, or to the classic era of I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue.

Tortington Fri 05-Sep-08 11:35:29

oh so we're not talking 'George Galloway' on talk sport then really are we grin

damn it

PavlovtheCat Fri 05-Sep-08 11:35:43

Radio 5 live, was on it this morning!!!

DisasterArea Fri 05-Sep-08 11:38:54

i do apologise - i never grew out of radio 1.

i'll slope off quietly and hide under a rock again

Threadwworm Fri 05-Sep-08 11:39:37

I also lisened to dear old Kenny Everett on Capital Radio, the best DJ ever.

WendyWeber Fri 05-Sep-08 11:59:40

Oh, I used to listen to KE on (pirate) Radio London - he was wonderful!

policywonk Fri 05-Sep-08 12:06:06

Hello fellow audiophiles

Has any one else noticed that Five Live has unaccountably become detached from the rest of the BBC stations in the DAB lineup? Or is it just my ancient digi radio?

SlartyBartFast Fri 05-Sep-08 12:07:07

i used to listen to kenny everett on my walkman at work, while i was transcribing my shorthand grin
i laughed and laughed.

MaggsS Fri 05-Sep-08 13:47:30

Still addicted to Steve Wright in the Afternoon. Reminds me of my youth...Ahhh!

Carmenere Fri 05-Sep-08 13:49:58

I am a radio addict. however I have been listening to the Archers for four years and have only just begun to understand ithmm Of course I am now addictedblush

Lilymaid Fri 05-Sep-08 13:52:50

WW - I used to listen to Kenny Everett on Radio London too - Kenny and Cash with Dave Cash! Very much a Radio 4 listener now, though.

SlartyBartFast Fri 05-Sep-08 14:31:49

kenny was on capital when i listened -

did not like steve wright in my youf. at all.

like him, just occasionally now - like the music though. good variety.

Madlentileater Fri 05-Sep-08 14:34:08

ah yes, R4- did anyone hear the excellent piece on Woman's Hour this am, about children in Yarl's Wood?

SlartyBartFast Fri 05-Sep-08 14:39:42

what time is woman's hour? (is it everyday)?

hazeyjane Fri 05-Sep-08 14:42:39

favourite radio programmes :
danny baker (london), adam and joe(6), radcliffe and maconie(2) and ken bruce (blushdon't know why, like wearing comfy old slippers).

I really miss john peel, home truths. Most radio in our house is drowned out by cbeebies, and dd1 asking for her songs (springwatch theme, nellie the elephant etc).

OrmIrian Fri 05-Sep-08 14:43:30

Not much of a TV person but can't manage without R4.

Habbibu Fri 05-Sep-08 14:43:44

Oh hurray! <lies down and basks>

SlartyBartFast Fri 05-Sep-08 14:44:39

ken bruce gets a bit tiresome with the scottish references though

OrmIrian Fri 05-Sep-08 14:45:37

threadworm - Kenneth Williams was so much a part or JAM during my formative years that a colleagues 'Minute Waltz' ringtone immediately made me think of his voice.

Habbibu Fri 05-Sep-08 14:45:51

Bah. Try living in Scotland and being constantly bombarded by casual refs to little bits of London...

SlartyBartFast Fri 05-Sep-08 14:47:08

i spose, but ken, we do know your're scottish!

Habbibu Fri 05-Sep-08 14:49:50

Well, yes, I do hate the "Professional Person from a Region" a la Fred Macaulay, too.

Madlentileater Fri 05-Sep-08 14:51:17

Woman's hour is mid morning I usually miss it due to work but they do a weekend round up too. Of course you can listen again on the bbc ws.
Usually very good and varied.

BoysAreLikeDogs Fri 05-Sep-08 14:52:33

<<happy dance>>

Oooh thank you so much Big Tech

hazeyjane Fri 05-Sep-08 15:08:21

i know ken bruce is irritating in every single facet of his personality! (especially his 'witty' banter with Sally Traffic) but something about having him on in the background makes me feel all safe (god i am so sad), I also get quite competitive about popmaster.

WendyWeber Fri 05-Sep-08 20:36:39

Lilymaid, I had the "Kenny & Cash - on London!" jingle in my head when I wrote that smile

My dad (v middle-aged & conservative, & he was only in his mid-forties) used to sneer about Dave Cash's "mid-Atlantic accent"

"but he's Canadian, Dad!"

"no he isn't"

(oh, OK, you know best grin)

elkiedee Mon 08-Sep-08 12:56:58

Woman's Hour is 10 am each weekday morning, and there's a selection on a weekend programme, don't remember time. Will have to Listen Again to Friday's before next Friday. I listened regularly when I was on maternity leave, the best days were when ds was asleep for a lot of it and I could mn at the same time!
