Absolutely devastated at today's news. The News Quiz will miss him greatly. He would probably laugh at a post lamenting his loss on MN but I'm putting it up here anyway.

So so sad. It won't be the same without him.

Sad news! It's such a tragic coincidence that both he, and the equally brilliant Linda Smith, both died from cancer so young.

His voice has been in my ear since the mid-90s. He was reasonably good with accents but a terrible singer. He was genuinely funny. I saw him about 12 years ago when he performed in Dublin and he was really good.

Just heard this and am very sad. He was so very funny. I loved him on I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue. Singing.

Very funny man, so sad there will be no more. Still miss Linda Smith too sad

I will miss Jeremy, he made me laugh.

Really sad news. I like Mark Steel's tribute, "Knowing him as I did, I know he wouldn't want you to be sad, he'd want you to be bloody devastated".

Moussemoose Fri 01-Feb-19 17:12:31

I'm just gutted.

So sad. Saturday mornings with my late DH were always cup of tea, The Archers, then News Quiz, made especially good if Jeremy Hardy was on, ranting.

Miles Jupp's intro to Friday's News Quiz, and best of Jeremy Hardy postscript to the show were moving and so funny.

My dream team for the News Quiz was, for a long time, Alan Coren, Linda Smith, Jeremy Hardy and Andy Hamilton. It's really awful that cancer has got three of them. Fuck cancer.

I’ve been telling anyone that’ll listen. Do listen to Sunday ‘s Broadcasting House with a clip from years ago. I think it’s in the second half if you can’t/won’t/haven’t time to hear the whole prog. You will be glad you did .....

Thank you BikingBeatrix I have just listened. Well worth it.
It is 33 mins 40 secs into the programme.

Nice article here - Also an obituary here - I hadn't realised he had oesophageal cancer: that's pretty horrible.
