Even if you don't have a leg(?), a life or a clue, Welcome to the first ever 85th Archers thread! Smile

Wild speculation and sensible questions always welcome - especially any newcomers.

A little game for the weekend, inspired by Timetogetup0630 and Gruach on the last thread:

Invent an explanation for how your username was the inspiration for an Archers storyline, character, etc - be creative!

My username is telling the story of Toby, Adam and Ian, although it probably needs some punctuation: Dad! Dad/Dad? Grin

dairyfarmerswife - bit too easy for you, but as professional country folk maybe you could judge the winner? Star

Credit to MrsGrindah for the clever thread title

Congratulations Dad and thanks.

Well the only Becky/Rebecca etc. I could find is Becky Holden who was a silent manager at the mega-dairy. So maybe she "helped" that Beech to fall across the road and impede Robs escape with Jack, in revenge for his actions leading to the closure of the mega dairy. She could even be the one who will provide the crucial information to lead to Justin being caught for the hit and run on Matt. After all she is still lurking in Ambridge, skulking around behind Beech trees.

My username comes from Terry Pratchett and I feel Ambridge would be greatly improved by the arrival of an astoundingly clever talking mongrel. Would up the average IQ of the village by a good 50 points, I think. Grin

Thanks for the new thread, DDD! Great title, Mrs Grindah.

Fink, a non-unionised worker who undermines other workers' rights, e.g. by strike breaking. I'm named after, erm, Eddie? He seems like the kind of person who would callously disregard the call of the proletariat to unite if there were a fast buck in it for him. Wink

TheAntiBoop, Gasp0de - I think you might be missing the point: you need to retroactively invent a reason to persuade us that your username was the inspiration behind an existing story or character in TA.

So, maybe the industry jargon for the contaminant on Brian's land is "boop", so the clean-up requires the use of expensive "anti-boop" which the insurers will resist paying for... Confused

Can't think of a story line at the moment so will have to ponder that. However I can point out that Emma and Ruth have both been played by actresses called Felicity Grin

Re: social makeup of parish councils.

In my rural area it is very diverse. Ranging from local long-standing farm manager to a landowning Lord. And much in between.

From the previous thread:

I can understand her frustration at other people getting breaks through family connections when she is constantly propping up the Grundies and trying to make a better life for her and Ed on three minimum wage jobs.

The trouble is that her frustration isn't restricted to people who get breaks through family connections. Its most recent manifestation was in relation to Phil the Builder, who certainly doesn't come within any of those categories (unless he's been shagging Shula, Elizabeth or Adam and we don't know about it yet).

Also on the university issue discussed in the previous thread: older landed Ambridgeites probably suffered in terms of access to further education because it fell victim to the then SWs' wish to have them back in Ambridge providing storylines, rather than tucked away at Exeter, Bristol, Durham, St Andrews or other suitably upper/aspiring classes university.

Storyline: Knob hitting Helen? An analogy between the likes of Plug and Jazza? Pip as Toots? Henry as Smiffy?

My name must have inspired the great escape last weekend, when Neil ended up chasing pigs through the mud.

My plot prediction is that tests reveal Lexi is already pregnant.

Jennydarling sounds like the witch, feeding up Hansel and Gretel. Her behaviour towards Lexi is deeply weird and we're only 2 days in.
