Did anyone else listened to The Reunion this morning, it was fascinating and shocking it gave such an insight into the Police investigation.

I was wondering if anyone else was amazed by the levels of victim blaming and the attitude of John Domaille who went on to become Assistant Chief Constable. I felt so sorry for the Junior detective who interviewed Peter Sutcliffe & was ignored.

I found the programme a good listen but much of it was going over familiar territory. I don't think that detective was the only one with leads to Sutcliffe who got ignored because the officers in charge were so convinced that the taped calls were genuine.

What I did find interesting, and reassuring, was the information about the effect the whole thing had on policing methods. It was after this that they started being much more organised about record-keeping and of course it led to the early adoption of computerisation for that purpose. It's also comforting to think that Sutcliffe would stand a much greater chance of getting caught early now as a result of the availability of DNA analysis and the use of CCTV.

I adore the Reunion, one of the best things on R4. Interesting to hear the suggestion that more female officers in the case would have led to a speedier end to the murders.

Radio 4 Nerd here....did you know it was an episode of The Reunion that that the writer of Made in Dagenham (the recent musical (and film?)) heard one morning on R4 that inspired her to write the script.

Sorry, you were having a sensible discussion re policing methods and sexist police attitudes and I trot out some radio nerdishness (blush). As you were :)
