(3 Posts)Did anyone else listen to this? Based on the book of Libby Purves's son's poetry and journals after his suicide, narrated by Libby with his writings read by an actor. It was utterly extraordinary and really moving! I'm not a big fan of her interview style on Midweek, but this (adapted for radio by her) was wonderful.
Do listen to it.
I heard it and was mesmerised. His language in his diaries was so poetic, descriptive and some of the beautiful descriptions of sailing and the sea reminded me of the Ancient Mariner and Robert Frost. I remember reading a quote by Libby Purves shortly after Nicholas died and it really struck a chord, how people with depression find it so HARD to live in the world; she said something like ' He stayed with us as long as he could.' I thought, for a bereaved mother, that was so understanding of her beloved boy.
Yes that was a lovely way to put it. What an incredible young man.
