Why doesn't Lillian just split from Matt?

If she loves being with the terminally dull Paul so much, why doesn't she just tell Matt it's all over, ask him to leave and install Paul in Ambridge? It's her house, isn't it?

She's not tied to Matt through kids or financial necessity, and she doesn't seem to like him very much even when he's trying to be nice to her.

Is it just the thought of Peggy's cat's bum face that's stopping her?

Oh that's interesting I don't remember her doing that; but that doesn't mean muc grin I know she's wealthy. If that's the case then they BOTH rely on each other too much to split (an invidious position to be in grin)

What a great thread! Yes, Lillian is the director and ?majority shareholder in Amside. Matt is banned from being a director so would be up the creek if Lillian left him. I'm another one who can't understand why Paul and Lillian haven't talked about what they're going to do longer term. They never seem to look further ahead than the next dirty weekend.

Praps that's because that's what it's all about londonmother!! grin So what would happen if Lil. actually changed the locks on Matt. d'you reckon?

HearMyRoar Sat 19-Jan-13 17:24:58

Surely she needs his business experience though, and his dodgy contacts. I can't see her wanting to run amside on her own, wouldn't have much time for spa days. so in that respect she needs matt as much as he needs her I think.

ppeatfruit Sat 19-Jan-13 17:29:37

I agree Hearmy She likes the lazy life; well she IS past retirement age.

I love Lillian AND Matt. Together. In spite of Matt being a complete arsehole.

They are sexeh and my favourite characters by far

that Paul, however, is a Rum One

No good will come of it

Lillian is also incredibly loyal, even to people who don't deserve it. I can't see her leaving Matt, though I think her stomach was turned by the Arthur and Joyce debacle: she doesn't mind him being mean to people his own weight but when he picks on weaker people, that's different.

ppeatfruit Sun 20-Jan-13 16:29:51

Yes Abrald But IMO she must either love him or be a bit thick to stick by him after goal when it was pretty obvious that the 'tiger' grin wasn't going to change his stripes.

Paul is way way too good to be true. He has potential stalker written all over him (if that's possible for a radio character??)

Abra1d Sun 20-Jan-13 17:07:06

Ooh, a stalker! Remember Cathy's?

I am shock at Paul. What a wuss.
Looks like the Alpha Male has won.

PseudoBadger Sun 20-Jan-13 22:47:49

Thank god that's over and done with I hope

LondonMother Mon 21-Jan-13 10:57:49

I think this story has a long way to go yet!

I would like to agree with you but ...
-the current episode (hospital re James' broken leg) of the Lillian & Paul saga started at the back-end of October. They have had more than their allocated time (in fact, it slots nicely into a double allocation of the standard six weeks).
-we have a new character in the ECMCM and need to do somthing with him and his suspiciously missing DW
-the Bridge Farm crew have suddenly re-appeared after months of silence. It must be Their Turn.

Paul may be back at some stage, but not now.

Tommy Mon 21-Jan-13 16:34:54

I can't believe that him just saying "I'm going to have let you go" or whatever he said is the end of it? hmm

PseudoBadger Mon 21-Jan-13 17:49:05

Oh no, have we given up Paul and got Helen back shock
Come back Paul - all is forgiven!

ppeatfruit Mon 21-Jan-13 17:53:29

Well that scene showed Lil to be quite weak which isn't like her! But she obviously feels she has too much to loose if she chucked out Alpha Matt?!

GrendelsMum Mon 21-Jan-13 18:17:47

Well, I'd have told Matt where to go after that scene, the patronising sexist git.

However... maybe she didnt like Paul's house in Watford?

HearMyRoar Mon 21-Jan-13 20:56:02

matt would definitely win over moving to Watford and I grew up there so know what I'm talking about.

ppeatfruit Tue 22-Jan-13 10:24:36

Nah I reckon Lilian and Matt suit one another! A semi in Watford is not Lil's style grin

PrincessFiorimonde Tue 22-Jan-13 13:25:50

I have been away for a few days and missed Sunday's episode!

<loads iPlayer>

ppeatfruit Wed 23-Jan-13 16:22:16

So that was all a bit of a a large red herring then !! they're back to the 'same old same old' hmm

piprabbit Wed 23-Jan-13 16:28:48

I think that Lillian is going to arrange for Paul to project manage the renovation of the Victorian whatsit project that Matt's interested in (what with Paul being an expert on that sort of thing).

They'll be getting hot and heavy on the reclaimed tiles and Matt will catch them.

I feel sorry for Matt. I didn't think Lillian had it in her to be so deceitful.

ppeatfruit Wed 23-Jan-13 16:45:55

Aah pip Clever bit of forecasting you could well be right grin but before being too sympathetic to Matt have you forgotten that Matt would've been up Annabel if they hadn't been walked in on by Lil. in her house!!! I bet she hasn't forgotten it!!

piprabbit Wed 23-Jan-13 16:58:15

<hides a soft spot for Tiger> blush
