Would you do as Elizabeth is doing?

Cutting out David and ruth etc? By the way, the actress who plays Ruth is brilliant at being emotionally furious and cold. But I think if it were me I would act like Elizabeth after everything that happened.

The Archers by the way.

I am about a week behind, just got Pip asking why a birthday card wasn't sent. I don't know, she isn't cutting out her niece and nephews but hard to cut out brother and not wife? I think what makes it more awkward is that Pip knows what is going on. I don't have anything to do with my BIL (he didn't egg DH on to go on roof etc) but still chat to wife and children come to stay.

Sorry 5, I really should not put on hand cream then steal dh's work iPad and attempt to use it!

Don't understand your sympathy for Lizzie, OP.Confused Her husband, on home territory, made a misjudgement and slipped. Lizzie, in her warped brain, has translated this accident into David practically murdering him.
I think it is about time the rest of the family stopped pussy-footing around her. They should stand together and say 'if you cut out David then you cut us all out'. She is being ridiculously melodramatic about the whole thing. She should have taken more heed of Shula, whose husband was also murdered the unfortunate in an accident involving someone close to the family, and has pulled through it. IIRC, Shula coped by going up Lakey Hill and shouting in fury at everyone/no-one in the solitude up there - the total opposite of Mrs ButtonedUpIceQueen.

Jill needs to take control and tell Lizzie that she is out of order and in need of therapy.

I agree with R4, Nigel could have easily said No, he could have waited till the next day and got someone else to help, maybe Kenton.
David and Ruth should treat Lizzie as she is treating them, totally disown her and try to move on, and I think Pip should tell Lizzie to stuff her job. Grin

I guess that anyone, having lost a partner in an accident, might lash out at the nearest person who could be seen as 'to blame' for it. But wouldn't you do that straight away, rather than a few months later? I think that's what seems strange about Elizabeth's behaviour.

Are Elizabeth and David ever going to make up? Or will Jill go to her grave with her children still at such odds with each other?

Here's a possible plot line - one of the twins is desperately ill and needs a kidney transplant. David is the only family member whose organs are compatible, so he volunteers. Cue Elizabeth sobbing all over him in gratitude...

She is nuts. Entirely understandably under the circumstances, but nonetheless.

David will be driven to suicide (or close)

No-one will stand up to Lizzie as she is the youngest and has always been a spoilt brat.

"wouldn't you do that straight away, rather than a few months later?"

I though that David explained how sorry he was for asking Nigel that night only days/weeks after the inquest, so assumed Elizabeth was thinking it had been N's idea in the first place, rather than D wanting to do it that night so he would be able to do other things the next day...

BICBW :)

I agree with StealthSquiggle. Lizzie is a spoilt brat (due to the heart problems) and a cold-hearted harridan, made worse by Nigel being so endlessly impractically good-natured and thoughtless ('lets have a vineyard!' 'lets start allotments!' 'lets have a shire horse!').

Someone needs to have a screaming go at Lizzie. Ruth should have said 'You bitch. Your husband made David put himself into mortal danger, and could have killed him. Nigel had been up on that roof plenty of times before, he must have known how dangerous it was. But no, rather than carrying out a risk assessment and then arranging for a proper team to go onto the roof with safety equipment to remove the banner, he tells his David that he's got to climb on the roof himself. It's a miracle that David wasn't killed too.'

This'll probably kill the thread but have i missed Shula actually explaining to Eliz. about the circs. of mark's death and that she doesn't blame caroline? Surly that might break the irrational fury of Eliz's grief.

Cussandroid · 10/07/2011 18:20

Ohhhh - what were the circs, fruit?

R4 · 10/07/2011 18:38

Yes, ppea, Shula tried to have that conversation. Didn't work.

Elizabeth = crackers.

Loving Ruth at the moment! Although if Pip keeps telling David where he's been going wrong all these years with the farm no good will come of it

R4 · 10/07/2011 18:50

Nah. Pip is only doing to David what David did to Phil (and he probaly did to Dan). It is the duty of young whippersnappers to create dramatic tension tell their fathers how to suck eggs.

Is it me, or is Pip less whiny these days?

Mark's death - afair it was the day before Caroline was due to marry the vicar. No, not that vicar, the other cool and groovy vicar. Caroline and Debbie went out for a ride to chill out. A fast car or motorbike roared past startling Caroline's nervous and relatively new horse (i think it was newish). Caroline fell on to the road and was knocked out. Mark came round the corner in his car, saw her, swerved to avoid her and hit a tree.
Shula was at home post embryo transfer from IVF (the awful Daniel) and was organising Caroline's hen party.....

In Lizzie's shoes I would be cross he took 6 months to tell me. I would feel very excluded I think. IAs far as the accident - well it was an accident. Nigel was reckless. Doesn't matter what David said - Nigel knew the terrain and made his (bad) decisions.

Cussandroid · 10/07/2011 20:44

Thanks - it was the horse's fault then! Grin

As you say re Nigel. David shouldn't have been required to go on the roof himself - they should've paid people to do it professionally. [hoists bosom]

Weirdly Cuss. I didn't know the exact circs. until i read about them on here (i spose it's difficult to 'do' an accident on the radio) .Thanks for that R4.

Anyone else think that the actress who plays Pip is a bit out of her depth ATM? IMO time doesn't seem to be improving her skills.

Report
Cussandroid · 11/07/2011 10:44

Awwww...Pip. So cute with the lambs. So all at sea with the lamentable Jude.

Mebbe she'll take over the farm when Elizabeth hires a hitman to take David out. Grin Probably not necessary the way he's hurtling towards suicide...all too common amongst farmers.

Good summary, NL, you remembered details I'd forgotten. It wasn't entirely the horse's fault - wasn't Mark using his mobile (in the days before it was illegal) hence lost control.

It's so tempting to read too much into hints in the script. Anyone notice how Pip and Spencer's farming skills neatly dovetail (her: livestock, him: arable) and his family aren't too far away, on a larger farm that can justify extra staff, so she can disappear off for a few years but then reappear when David & Ruth get too old to run Brookfield by themselves. He even has future storylines a problem brother.
I hear wedding bells.

ppeatfruit · 21/07/2011 09:21

Yes R4 I also hear wedding bells. Did anyone note David nearly allowing Lizzie's pride and joy Freddie to play with a dangerous farming machine?!

Report
carocaro · 21/07/2011 21:19

Yes R4 I totallyu agree to near and easy

Whoose the one on the Hungarian Farm?

And did Clarrie infect the yoghurt with her runny poo?

Pip is 'too good to be true' at present her scrumish with Jude cannot be the only bad thing to happen, I reckon she gets preggie after a roll in the hay after a young farmers do, but because he's a farmer everyone is happy happy happy!
