Ooooh!
Is 'Archers researcher' a proper job?
Where do I apply?

I don't think they can afford researchers, judging by the frequent cock-ups they make on all sorts of topics. Sorry to disappoint!

Wow - I got 36! Can I have a job at once?

The researchers may be a bit crap - but they are very sound on names of babies. There isn't an out of place name in Ambridge!

Good point. The only Brenda under 65.

And I forgot Shula and Kenton.

Maybe they've only been able to get it right since the advent of Mumsnet!

Roy and Brenda fitted in with theuir parents though - think Roy is probably linked with the C&W that Mike and Betty were obsessed with. They were generally NOT on trend so highly likely to have named a child Brenda Grin

Roy could be for Roy Orbison, I suppose. The internet also suggests Roy Rogers (TV cowboy, right era) and Roy Acuff, C&W singer from Tennessee - never heard of him before but I suppose if Mike had been heavily into vintage stuff.... Don't recall Betty being interested in any of that at all, or Mike, for that matter. Are you sure you're not getting muddled with Eddie Grundy?

Famous Brendas - more than I would have thought, and almost all American.

Eddie and Jolene are the C and W fans. God, imagine their lovechild!
Hideous thought - Jolene is too old to get pregnant, isn;t she? Please tell me she is!

Yes I' sure I'm not getting them muddled up! Hmm

My Archers book records that pre-children Mike and Betty lived briefly with Pat and Tony at Bridge farm and drove Pat mad playing C&W at all hours.

Mike and Betty were certainly into dancing - not sure whether C&W though, I thought ballroom?

Ballroom in later years. C&W in the seventies - along with Eddie etc.

You have the advantage of me there, Northern! I started listening properly in the very early 80s. I bow to your fabulous memory for Archers trivia!

I have to say I wasn't listening in the 70s - early to mid 80s for me too but it's all in the book. Grin
