The Archers: Ian and Camilla

I used to quite like Ian the chef. But tonight, when he met Camilla and turned more gooey than one of his own cake mixtures... well, that was the end of all respect!

(Camilla, btw, sounded like a Woodentop, but after all she's not an actor, so I don't blame her for that.)

All a bit strange if you ask me - can't be doing with these guest appearances on the Archers. I like the everyday folk. :)

I love love love the Archers, but found myself feeling really pissed off with Camilla being on it yesterday. Everyone was super excited with the exception of Helen who was a bit underwhelmed, but nobody was anti FGS.

Actually I feel quite cross about it.

what, did you want the ghost of Di too put in an appearance?

Would have been equally as ghastly.

While we're at it, what's the deal with all the focussing on Pat and Kathy's friendship?

How long before Jolene and Kenton get it on?

bless Camilla though, game old bird etc

DS was talking on Sunday over the Kathy and Pat fandango. What was the matter with Kathy? Why had she been off?

blankstare - think we're not going to agree on Camilla (or any other royals).

Pat went to see Kahty her and said that she hadn't seen her for a while. Kathy said that she (Pat) was right and that Kathy had been spending too much time with them (I must have missed that episode) and so she'd backed off. Pat told her to still come, she'd missed her and they arranged coffee. Just seems to be lots of time spent on this and I wonder why.

I swear I must just tune out whenever Kathy starts talking.

And why is everyone always going on about Tony not liking Kathy? Any reason, or just that she's always there?

I am no great fan of Camilla, but she did try her best! Probably not going to give Helena Bonham Carter a run for her money though :o

The whole point of Camilla's appearance(!) on the Archers was to raise awareness of Osteoparosis(sp?). She is a patron of the society, and it is some anniversary of it this year. The main point she got across was that men can get it too, which we do tend to forget. Apparently she is a great fan of the Archers, and was thrilled to be on it.
I didn't think her acting was any more wooden than her normal public demeanour probably is. Let's face it people like her are putting on a public face nearly all the time.
Hasn't she got a deep voice though? I don't think I've ever heard her speak before, as I generally ignore all that sort of thing. [staunch republican emoticon].

I'm muchly looking forward to Kathy having her final breakdown when she finds Kenton and Jolene in a passionate embrace.

Have to admit that I quite enjoyed Jazzer taking Harry out on a double date.

And as Choccy said, clearly the point of Camilla was just to raise awareness of osteoperosis in men(sp?), so I think that's fair enough. Mainly raised my awareness of shortbread, but that's how these things go...

Pats husband made grunting noises that Kathy was always at their dinner table so Pat relayed it nicely to Kathy saying with Helen and baby there wasn't time etc... Kathy got the hump...

How old is Jolene? I have a vision of her in her late 50's early 60's and I imagine Kenton to be very early 40's. So she'd have a toyboy - an unreliable one at that...

GrendelsMum · 18/02/2011 15:22

No, Kenton's 53 - he's just very immature. Wink

Kathy's just turned 50.

Fallon's only 25, so I don't think Jolene is likely to be more than 55, given that her marriage to Wayne seems to have been when she was quite young.

I love MN! Just heard Jolene asking Kenton out to a "gig" and thought...could they? is it physically possible? and came here to find out!
Thanks GrendelsMum for giving the ages, that surprised me. From their voices I expected a 20-year age difference.
Poor Kathy...imagine the whinging when two men have left her for Jolene!!

Pancakeflipper · 20/02/2011 20:57

Oh I cringed today when ironing and heard Jolene ask Kenton to a gig. I had a quick flash in my brain of them going to see something like JLS. Bopping at the front.

Kenton had a very young voice ( go and snog Kirsty) Jolene doesn't.

And cor' blimey, I hadn't twigged that it would be 2 - 0 to Jolene. Poor Kathy - I actually feel a little sympathy for the most miserable woman in the show. She makes recently widowed Elizabeth look positively perky.

GrendelsMum · 20/02/2011 22:16

Yes, it's a bit daft that Kathy was suspecting him of having a fling with Kirsty when he must be 30 years older than her.

I imagined that the 'gig' involved them going to sit sedately in a real ale pub, watching three long-haired men play guitars.

Just hilarious that it will be 2-0 to Jolene.

Perhaps Jamie will leave Kathy to live with Jolene, Fallon and Kenton in one big happy family?

Camilla was rubbish

Ian was rubbish

Kenton should get it on with Jolene

Northernlurker · 20/02/2011 22:21

I want Kenton and Jolene to get it on. They are a lovely match. Sadly it seems like they're a bit freaked out atm.

Jolene was the sexy femme fatale of the Archers for many years, Clarrie was always very dubious about her relationship with Eddie!!

I imagine her as a very sexy woman, even though shock horror she's in her 50s. Much more suited to Jolene than to Kathy.

Ponders · 20/02/2011 22:31

I think if Kirsty had kept schtum Kenton & Jolene would have progressed naturally to whatever...

Now Kenton has gone OMG Shock & stepped back a dozen paces

damn you, Kirsty

I forgot to say, in my decrepitude, (in my 50s Hmm) that I was so cross about the sychophancy that I turned the Archers off!!
Surely someone in Ambridge would be able to reflect the views of those of us who don't love the Royals. Not condemning them as individuals but the whole edifice.

I am dreading the wedding of Kate and William, I would leave the country for the weeks leading up to it if I could afford to.

Earthymama - I think the OTT royal worshipping by Linda Snell was to allow those who don't do Royals to snigger and say "only muppets like this love the Royals."

I am swayed in the hope we might get brill fireworks. Shallow I am.

Archers characters' political views are included in their archive notes. Most of Ambridge (like a lot of rural communities, landowners etc) is Tory-leaning, so they'd be quite at home with a Royal visit.

I thought Ian was going to refuse to meet her because he was a Republican. I was almost disappointed that it was all about shortbread reticence.

Report
GrendelsMum · 22/02/2011 13:51

I was a bit sceptical about this, but then it occurred to me that if Camilla were coming to our village, I probably would make the effort to toddle down the road and have a look. But then in our village, you pretty much have to go and look at anything that's going on.
