I have 2 questions.

How do you secure your child in? Do you use the 3 point harness and velcro strap or just the strap?
How do I know which seat belt clips I need?

Hope someone can help, been looking for the answer online all day.

Hi,
I had matrix and matrix pro with two kids.
I depends how old is you baby and how do you use it.
I used it as carrycot and flat carseat when they were newborn. I used harness and waist belt. And if i remember right, WHICH showed the flat carseat was not safe( after i used with my dd1)

I was going to use it flat for at least the first few weeks. i looked at the which report and seem to think that the matrix was different from the others. How did you use the harness and waist belt? I have a white mattress like thing which the waist belt seems to go through but then you can't use the harness as it covers it up.

Thanks for helpin it's driving me insane. What to choose? Is it safe? So far I have 2 pushchairs and 3 car seats ...

We had Matrix for DD (now 6) and DS (nearly 4) and as Diva said it was supposed to be very safe in the lie-flat position in one Which report and then after we had used it for both is suddenly not safe!! Not sure what to make of that but we had no problems at all (even used it for DD to sleep in overnight a few times when she was tiny)

You should have seatbelt clips with it, they were red and sort of triangular, or were when we had ours. If you have them its best to leave them on the seatbelt once you have them in the right place.

Whereabouts are you and where did you get the Matrix? If you are Herts/Beds you can come round here and see if DH can remember how to fix it in the car - he has done it for a few people over the years tho may be a bit rusty! If not then most places selling them will show you how to fit it tho some are better than others. If in doubt turn up at a shop, ask someone and if they aren't helpful bring all your hormones into play, weep copiously and I'm sure they will decide to help (I don't usually advise this strategy but its a wonderful way of a pg woman getting things sorted)

sorry been busy answerig door,
yes, i had mattress when i used it as carrycot. i only used belly strap. then i used as upright carseat or even upright carrycot, as its not as cramped like normal carseat on chassis, so i sued harness without mattress. i think used till 9-10m i think.
matrix was the best in 2005, obviously chnged since then

Does the mattress just lie on the inside, i.e not attached to anything then? I got it 2nd hand (I know another foe par, but I have a mamas and papas prima viggio which has an even worse review in the first few weeks until baby can hold its head up.)

That link is for the matrix cup which is the newer version of the one I have. Mine has a 3 point harness not a 5. Does that make a difference?

There are 3 versions.
Original Matrix, the Matrix Pro and the Matrix Cup.

Matrix Cup has the 5 point harness and that harness is used whether laying flat or upright. This is the safest harness but is a nightmare to adjust!

The other 2 have both 3 point harness for using upright and the belly strap for using when laying flat.

All need clips to fix onto car seat belts and all will fit using the original red/orange and black triangular (easiest in my opinion) clips or the newer silver clips.

The original Matrix needs adaptors to fit to buggy, won't fit on Pro or Cup version buggies.

The Matrix Pro and Matrix Cup fit directly onto chassis.

I think I am becomming clearer. When you use the waist harness what keeps the harness and baby in the pram? CAn I use the 3 point harness too for extra protection?

If you want to use the mattress then you can only use the belly strap.
The 3 point harness just sits under it but the belly strap threads through. The velcro on the belly strap is really strong and will hold baby in fine.

You could however choose not to use the mattress and use the harness laying flat as well. This may not work for bigger babies though as the harness is not all that long.

The newer models don't have the mattress included now.
