bjcm or the maclaren xt who has had one or the other swaped glad they did or whished they had not

I have a BJCM and I really like it.

With my previous child I had a huge Urban Detour and a Maclaren Volo for the car. I always hated the Maclaren. My friend (who is a Mac devotee) insisted I try hers which I think was an xt or possibly a Techno because she didn't was sure I would love it if I had it for an afternoon. I didn't like it at all.

I think it's a very individual thing, I prefer single-handled 3-wheelers with good handle height and enough room to take big strides without kicking the back axle. The BJCM is good for that and is also quick to fold and reasonably light-weight for slinging into the car.

Not sure what a BJCM - is it a baby jogger ? If so, I haven't had one of these but I have beenrecently using a Nipper 3 wheeler which is similar and a techno xt at same time. I have just given up the nipper in preference to the Maclaren. I think personal choice but prefer the compactness of the maclaren against the relative size of the 3 wheeler.
3 wheeler better off road but I am mostly on pavements.

This is the BJCM. It's not a proper off-roader or jogging buggy so it's not actually all that much longer than a Maclaren. The back wheels are wider though, so you do have to line up properly to go through doorways.

The things that I have always had trouble with Mac-type buggies are not being able to push single-handed, kicking the back axle if I use a normal walking stride and the way that the smaller wheels catch on uneven bits of pavement so that you come to a sudden halt.

I think a lot of it is to do with your height, natural posture and walking style. My friend who loves Maclarens is shorter than me, leans slightly forward when walking and naturally takes shorter, faster steps.

Hi basl

I had an xt and then got the bjcm and i loved it at first but then little things started to niggle me like the harness, the recline and also the fact that its wider than a normal stroller and i kept getting the wheels stuck on things in shops so i sold it after 2 months and guess what ive got again now, a black maclaren xt. Ive had it for nearly 2 months now and im still loving it, i much prefer it to the bjcm.

buggylovinmummy hiya this is so confusing i don't want to make another mistake. I wan't a good quality 2nd pushchair that does not rattle squeak when it's going over slightly bumpy ground but i know what you mean about the little nigles. I just can't find a stroller that gives the same ride as the baby jogger. bran thanks for the reply i had my mind all made up and then remembered speaking to buggylov and discussing all the nigles. Do you find these a problem with the bjcm?

basl i do remember you asking before actually, i understand what you mean about not wanting to make another mistake otherwise you just ending up buying and selling pushchairs forever.

You,ve had the bjcm before havent you if i remember right?

I must admit my new black xt isnt rattly like the grey xt i had before but my ds is 3 so maybe his weight stops it being rattly.

I use a BJCM occasionally with my DS who is 3. I love it. I pushed my friend's MacTech the other day and her DS is only 15 months and I found it a pain. I am freakishly tall though and love the handle height and the stride issue as mentioned earlier.

I have a BJCM and Maclaren (XT or XLR - can't remember now ) Anyway that prob tells you how much I do not use the Maclaren. I just find it too difficult to fold (stiff prob from no use!!), the recline is not one handed and I find quite jerky/not easy, I hate the harness buckle thing - it really hurts my fingers trying to undo it, and it is massive - even folded it only fits in the boot of my golf at an angle and not flat ifyswim. I am tall but can only carry it with 2 hands as it is so long and awkward.

Whereas the BJCM is a joy in comparison - easy fold, fits in boot with tonnes of room to spare, easy harness, easy recline that does not disturb a snoozing toddler. I have never noticed the issue of it being wider but then I had a Bugaboo Cam before so am used to the larger wheels.

Basl, I had both an XT and BJCM at the same time, and sold the XT. I loved my BJCM. Sold it though and bought a Maclaren Ryder (spitfire). I miss my BJCM though, and would love to get another one

5in can i ask what you don't like about the spitfire? What makes you want another bjcm. The reason i ask is i am so confused about what to get. I had a bjcm and really liked it but a few things i was unsure about. I have never had a mac and after speaking with nic it just sounds the way to go but i know what the bjcm was like. My mum loved how easy it was to handle even my hubby was furious when i sold it for the elite.

I just like how easy it is to push one handed, and how easy it folds. The Spitfire doesn't fit into the car boot very well wither, where as the BJCM fitted with loads of remaining room.

The only thing I didn't like about the BJCM is that DS3 looked slightly slumped in it.

Ahhh now that is one of the things i did not like and the recline but my ds is older now and not sleeping so much. I did like the big seat and how it was so easy to move. My mum is so not into pushchairs (she thinks i have lost the plot) loved it and was so mad when i got the elite. I have had many strollers now and they all squeak or make some kind of noice unlike the baby jogger. Have you ever had the luna mix? I did consider this as recommended.

I have had both and I prefer the XT. The BJCM seemed very cumbersome, I don't know why but I couldn't push it one handed! Also not keen on the strap recline and the wheels seemed cheapy and nasty. Was also peeved about spending that much and not even getting a raincover! I can't really see how it would be any good off road, although I never tried. The hood was good but then you get the same coverage off an XT hood too if you get a model from the last couple of years.

With the XT, it feels sturdy, adjustable handles, upright seat with a decent recline and I can push that easier with one hand than I could the BJCM.

I did have a Mac XL and liked it and now have a Techno XLR. I thought the XLR would be the same but it is better, smoother to push, easier to turn, feels lighter, better at going over bumps ... would recommend it but then I am a Maclaren fan, if you are not I'm not sure how much difference the plus points of the XLR will be to you.

I had both an xt and a bjcm at the same time- and i sold the.....xt! after much much much debate, i went for the bjcm even tho i'm a hard-nut-maclaren fan. the reasons were: the bjcm is a joy to push my 9month old as well as my 3.5yr old when he wants to hop iin- it feels so so so light. the hood is fab (you get that with xt too) but bjcm had extra viewing windows the mac i found was a bit hard to push one handed whilst holding toddlers hand although the carrying strap was good as i told my toddler it was a 'special' handle for him to hold when out walking! the mac was friggin difficult to fold whilst carrying baby- definately needs two hands i find, and long when fitting in boot as previous mnetter said, goes in at angle and takes too much space, recline was two handled and i fould it difficult to kinda adjust the two side reclining thingies at the same time, so if dd was asleep, it would be a very awkward, and bumpy process which would disturb her whilst havin a snooze! the bjcm is lovely only two niggles, it;s slouchy recline, fiddly harness as it has a mind of its own and gets all twisty at the wrong time especially when you're in a hurry! apart from that (oh, wider wheels, but that doesnt annoy me as much) my dp loved the bjcm too and we often argue asto who'll push it when we're out together lol. its so light that you can do it with one finger...

i love macs, but i think im lovin the bjcm more

definately would like the belly bar and the pvc raincover too, but they're pricey and dont come with it- bad point.

I loved the bjcm but found it heavy when ds got older especially when he lent fwd it felt less balanced so got an XT which is great. I would have bjcm for lighter child tho. DS was nearly 3 x

I bought an XT for my large 2 year old, and hated it if they want to walk and hold hands it's impossible it was rattley, uncomfy looking and he kept dragging his feet on the wheels!

I sold that and bought a BJCM and 6 months on I would'nt change again. I wish I'd bought it first of all because it has lightweight, easy fold, great to push with one hand and DS is comfy in it.

Would highly recommend only down sidde is that the accessories are expensive but the official raincover is essential and I would have the belly bar too.

So basically BJCM hands down.

I am amazed at all the dif opinions. Everytime i think oh the xt sounds the one for me i read something that puts me off. I have a cosatto diablo for when i went on holdiay as the seat is huge but i don't know i just don't think a like strollers. The bjcm wheels to look a bit plasticy but they certainly gave a good smooth ride. The harness did annoy me and the recline but i wonder if i could cope with all these things in order to gain the the easy fold the hood the lovley ride oh and the large seat which can be made more comfy with liner. I think i am going more down the baby jogger line.
