Difficulty with Argos pushchair

Last June I bought an Argos Cuggl (own brand) Cedar pushchair which had been retailing at £129.99 but was then on a flash sale at £88.99. This was for my then 1 year old son. 8 months later I was pushing him in it when part of the metal frame sheared off and effectively collapsed which was quite scary! It is now unsafe and unusable.

I have been back to Argos and they aren't demanding that I demonstrate that the product was faulty at sale (I think they offer a 1 year guarantee anyway? And the product was advertised as suitable for up to 3 years...). The difficulty is that they now don't stock the Cedar buggy. They stock a similar one called the Beech (also retailing £129.99) and then some cheaper umbrella pushchair alternatives, which I don't want as they aren't robust enough and aren't suitable to put in the boot/folding down. However Argos refuse to supply me with a Beech as an equivalent replacement, which doesn't make much sense to me as it would cost them the same if they DID still make the Cedar for them to supply a direct replacement. All they will offer is £88.99 in vouchers which leaves me having to pay over another £40.

Has anyone had similar problems with Argos and managed to find a resolution? Or any similar problem with the Cedar pushchair? It seems worrying that it could just collapse like that.

I’ve found Argos to be extremely helpful in the past which doesn’t help you obviously. Do you have proof of the original price you paid?? Did you order online? Or if you ordered in store did they ask for your email to send you an ereceipt (I know Argos always seems to ask for me for an email address.

Not much helps sorry! But as for budget strollers.. I really recommend Joie. My daughter had an umbrella stroller made by them for around £50-60. I found it really strong and robust. She used to sit in until she was gone 4 (she has a mild physical disability and tires quickly and her legs ache).

Yeah I have the original email receipt which shows the price I paid and I also showed them a website which indicates the price that the buggy was before it went on promotion and why I think they should give me the equivalent product of the same price since they can't give me exactly the same product now but they aren't budging. It's very annoying as I now have to buy another buggy for a 2 year old...

What method of payment did you use originally?

I would ask for a refund. Don't accept vouchers.
Why don't you use the 89.99 to buy a preloved one? I've got an oyster zero. Very robust, good to push and suitable for up to walking.

I used a debit card. They initially just offered store vouchers but eventually said they would refund cash. It's just annoyed me because I would rather have had an equivalent pushchair- it's not my fault they don't stock it anymore!

I'll check out the Oyster... not heard of that brand before?

It's by babystyle. Really popular at the moment.
