Travel System - Am I Too Picky?

34 replies

LauraLiz11 · 05/01/2020 16:53

Currently pregnant with my second child and looking for a travel system. With our first, I had no idea what we would need so ended up buying a travel system, then bought a second hand one because I wanted a carry cot. I also never used the car seat that came with it as I wanted one with a base which made my life so much easier.
This time around I know EXACTLY what I want, but I fear I'm being too picky and it might not exist.
I am looking for the following:
-Pushchair
-Car Seat
-Carrycot
-Compatible car seat base (ideally belted and not isofix)
-Cup holder/snack tray for baby, not just a bar
-Cup holder/tray for parent, not just a handle

I had all of these things in a combination of 3 separate purchase, so nothing was compatible with everything.
Does anyone know of anything remotely close without spending a fortune?
Or am I just being picky and typically unreasonable and pregnant?

Do belted car seat bases exist? I've never come across one.

Do you really want the car seat to be compatible? I only ask because since I had my first (now 4), there has been much more info coming out about car seats and that basically it's not wise to use them anywhere but the car. So with my second (now 15 wks), I've never actually taken the car seat out, he gets popped into sling or pram straight away. Tbh this has been far simpler than dragging around the cumbersome seat and putting it on and off the pram.

You can buy generic ones of these that will fit any pram so I’d buy the travel system you want (your first four are easy to find together) and then get the others separate if necessary and put them on.

When I had my eldest (who's now 10) I had a Graco Quattro tour deluxe travel system which did have all that you mention if I'm remembering correctly. I loved it. Was a brilliant system.

Yes of course, older cars don't have isofix points. My belated base was for my britax car seat.

OP a lot of the main make prams make different adapters to accommodate other make car seats.
Eg. My britax pram came with the connectors for their own car seat but for about £15 I could've bought ones that connected to pram but for a cossetto car seat.

I was going to say the same thing about car seat advice. I don't see the point in having one compatible with a travel system.

Uppababy Vista - compatible with maxi cosi car seats which you can get belted bases for.
Comes with carrycot (suitable for sleeping overnight), car seat adapters & pushchair which can be parent facing & forward facing and has a brilliant basket underneath.

Stokke? I know they come with removable snack pots.

Also, echo what others say about the car seat. If I was to do things again, I'd sack off the travel system and get a 360° car seat from the start.

@Whatsnewpussyhat

Can you add details of a separate belted car seat base? A separate base, so not just a belted car seat, but a separate base that is belted?

@mousemousse
My firstborn will be 3 in April and with her, I know that life would've been much easier if I could've taken her straight from the car to the wheels without disturbing her. I end up making a fair few trips to the high street which is only a 10 minute drive away, I would be out of the car no more than 15 minutes yet always had to carry the car seat or transfer her to the chair. I know it sounds petty but it really would make things easier.

@2020BetterBeBetter
I have looked for a universal tray to fasten on but I'm yet to find one. Am I just looking in the wrong places? Could you let me know what websites to look on?

Also, my car is old and I like it that way! I have very picky taste in cars, provided it's safe of course, the older the better. No one would say a word against a Range Rover, tell them it's 20 years old and their jaws drop Grin

Maxi cosi do belted bases. We have them in our cars (no isofix).

The maxi cosi easyfix is a belted base.

I had all these things. Oyster pram and carry cot. Maxi cosi seat with family fix base. Belts or isofix. I was very picky too :)

Belted base for britax SLR car seat. Has a front leg thing that folds down for stability.

Just get the travel system that suits you and buy a generic toddler snack tray like this.

We also have a parent drinks holder/ organiser which attaches to the handlebar- I got it for a fiver in TK Maxx.

It would be a pity to compromise on a travel system because of those two features (which aren’t common) when you could sort them out for another £20.

I had a bugaboo bee with an adaptor for maxi cosí but in fact my cybex.

Btw it’s much safer the isofix than belted (it removes human error) and also you don’t have to be unbelting it around your child

EasterIssland · 05/01/2020 21:52

My sisters vista doesn’t have the last two features btw. Nor does mine. I guess they’re extra for both

I loved my pram but my second baby (6 month old) reuses to go into the pram buggy. Your needs may have changed from the first time round.

NannyR · 05/01/2020 21:57

If the base is correctly belted in it is just as safe as an isofix. With the maxi Cosi you don't need to fasten the belt around the seat, it just holds the base in place then you clip the seat on and off the same way you would with an isofix base.

Thank you, I don't know what sort of thing I've been searching for but I never found anything like that. You'd think I'd know how to use google by now haha!
