Stroller for big 7-month old? Stop me making a second expensive mistake!

First-time mum, which is relevant because I feel as I though I made a very expensive mistake! I have to pick and buy online as it's far and awkward to get to a shop that stocks a decent range of buggies / strollers.

I bought a Silver Cross Wave travel system just before DS was born, thinking it would last until he was a toddler and walking. He outgrew the carrycot at 5 months (almost touching end to end but we couldn't have him in the seat before then because he didn't have good neck control), and the seat has this annoying plastic lip at the base, which his feet are now just about hitting at 7 months.

So now I need something else, and I would love it to be the only additional buggy / stroller I have to buy. The pavements here are bumpy and sometimes missing, such that I was thinking about an off-road buggy. We don't go into shops, etc much so it doesn't need to be really compact, just a smooth ride. We've got a mini-SUV, so most (all?) should fit in the boot. It doesn't have to be the cheapest, especially if something more expensive will really last. He has really fair skin and we've found the Wave parasol worse than useless. I was thinking about something like the Out n About Nipper (V4 - whatever that means?) with the UV screen.

Suggestions to consider and to avoid very gratefully received!

Have you looked at the Bumbleride Indie? I have one and it's fab. I've had it for almost a year and have had no problems at all. It has the smoothest push, has a large seat and can take up to 25kg. It's definitely worth the investment.

I bought a hauck rapid 4 for very long ds! we had the same issue with the first pram we bought. He is 3 now and still comfortably sits in it, the seat is huge and I think it holds up to 25kg where a lot of strollers only take 15kg.

If you don't mind it being world facing only, I cannot recommend the Baby Jogger City Mjni GT highly enough. Huge seat, huge hood, just about any terrain, great basket. Its 3 wheels though. I also love the Baby Jogger Premier. Huge basket, another big seat, hood isn't quite as big but you can use bugaboo donkey or buff hoods on it. It also faces parent and world, folds in both positions, and has 4 large wheels.

I'd really, really recommend a BOB revolution. Lots of space, really smooth ride on and off road. BOB are owned by britax now but they started off making bike trailers so the suspension is amazing and they are really well made. Ours did dd1 from about 6 months to 3 years ish, she still fit but didn't want to be pushed anymore! Chucked it in the loft for a bit and it's now on dd2. Because its britax owned its compatible with their stuff - we can clip the car seat on and also had a clip on lay flat carrycot for dd2 during the first 5 months until she outgrew that- she's long! They're not the prettiest but I love mine. Easy to fold, but admittedly not compact.

Another vote for the baby jogger city mini GT - it's fab. As pp said great hood and handles really well

Oh also - BIL had an out & about nipper at the same time we had dd1 in the bob, BIL was absolutely gutted by how much better the BOB was. If you want off road comfort look for proper suspension and proper inflated rubber wheels (like a bike) not solid plastic/ rubber ones. Makes such a difference.

3rd Vote for the Baby Jogger, we borrowed one from a friend for holiday and I have sworn that with baby no.2 we will be buying one. My tall and heavy 3 year old still fit in brilliantly for naps

These are all brilliant suggestions. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I'll study them closely online and take the plunge.

TBH this issue has taken me a bit by surprise as, whilst DH is 6 ft 1, I'm only 5 ft 2. So far, our DS is growing like he was born to two 6fters! We've just had to put him into 12-18 month sleepsuits, which I'm using as daywear given the cost of nicer 'outfits'.
