Pushchairs

If you were me, which pram would you get?

Does anyone have any advice on this? I have my 7yr old Emmaljunga Nitro City in lovely condition, I loved the carrycot a lot but the pushchair not as much. It is smooth pushing and comfortable but it is big and heavy... I'm keeping it for outdoorsy days and longer walks with dd + baby but I think I want something lighter/more compact/more normal looking/easy to manage for day to day.

I rarely leave the house during the week without driving nowadays (moved to a village). I have school runs (10min drive each way) and various after school activities to drop off and collect from. During the school day, I'm in and out of the car into local towns, visiting parents etc as necessary. I rarely use public transport anymore.

I don't like seeing tiny babies being pushed around in car seats, but I'm thinking the ability not disturb the baby during the school run in winter would be valuable? What do most people do? I see one or two carry the car seat, but my back is pretty temperamental and I would be asking for trouble there.

I spent far too long looking at prams and pushchair yesterday. Ones that stuck in the mind - Cosatto giggle 2, icandy Strawberry, Oyster 2. Any opinions on these?

I do plan on getting a wrap type sling to see how we get on with it, but don't see it completely replacing a pram/pushchair. (?)

So, any advice or recommendations for a not-too-big-or-heavy, easy fold pushchair or carrycot/pushchair combo suitable from birth that has parent facing as an option that is not too much effort to grab in and out of the car - please do throw it my way! No specific budget, but realistically I don't want to overspend since a second pram is not strictly necessary!

p.s. I think I'd get a maxi cosi car seat (rock or pebble plus) and my understanding is that they fit on to most pram bases if required but I'd have to check that if that's what I want to do...

I have a silver Cross way fairer. It's great. Easy to fold and unfold. Very stable. Very light. Adjustable handle bar height. Older one can buggy surf on the back of the basket easily. Compatible with car seats. It has also lasted really well.

I had a bugaboo before that which I hated.

Bugaboo bee, lightweight, parent and world facing, can. Put a car seat on, folds well. 2nd hand all the way 😊

Thanks both Smile

I kind of skimmed past the bugaboo bee yesterday even though I like the look of them. I think I've made the vague assumption that models with larger rear wheels would be easier on the back for up and down curbs etc. I'm not sure how that plays out in real life though I admit.

Once they start pushing over the £700 mark new I probably would feel less guilty about it all if I went second hand!

One that is affordable, not too bulky and will fit in your car. No point spending the best part of a grand on something that is too heavy or bulky and you have to ditch it in 3 months because it's too much effort. Go small and lightweight

I know that Emmaljunga Nitro City, Cosatto Giggle, Oyster 2 and Strawberry are practically the same weight so I wouldn't choose any of those if you want something lighter.

Parent facing is usually heavier so it can be hard to tick all those boxes. I currently have my eyes on phil&teds Go and Silver Cross jet but I'm drawn to small fold and very lightweight. We have Mountain Buggy urban jungle as our main push.

I would consider something small, and keeping the Emmaljunga for the rougher terrain rides. To the car, Bugaboo Bee would not be a bad choice, also, for ex. a Cybex Mios is a great option. There are also those super small pushchairs such as GB Qbit or Mountain Biggy Nano, which do have the option of a super lightweight carrycot to add to the seat. For someone who is always folding the pushchair in the car, I cannot imagine anything better than those compact ones. The bulkier one you would keep of course, at least until you are sure you don't want to use it anymore - just in case.
