Babyzen yo-yo is it worth it as a second buggy?

From extensive research it seems there just isn’t a decent alternative to the yoyo! The closest I have found is the mountain buggy Nano. However at £220 it isn’t that much less than the yo-yo - see below and I don’t think it would have the high resale value. The only plus is that it automatically combines with our car seat but that is only valid for this one trip...

John Lewis currently have £100 off Maxi-Cosi car seats if you buy a yo-yo, DS will need a new car seat in July so in effect it is £100 off which means it is only £50 more than the Nano.

We are going on a 6 week trip to Asia - sort of backpacking- think backpacking with nicer hotels and some private transfers but we will be getting minibuses. We have a bugaboo bee but I think it will be too big and is also likely to get wrecked. My thoughts are just buy the yo-yo and we can always sell it - they seem to go for at least £200 second hand, I’d love to keep it but we can’t afford that much for a second buggy long term . Does anyone have any feedback / thoughts or is there another option I’m missing? I did look at the pokit bug I want a buggy that reclines.

If there is a brilliant lightweight cheaper buggy that reclines that you would recommend let me know! It would need to be a cheapie as it would get bashed around a bit if it went with the suitcases, even in a bag.

Following this thread as well as despite still 20w pregnant, after travelling last week to bcn we could see the yoyo everywhere, investigated a bit and thought! Blimey can carry it as handluggage!
So it'd be good in the future. Wanna see what others give you as advice

@DaisyLand I’ve done a lot of research overnight. There are 3 options that fold v small.

Yo-yo which is the best £379.

Pokit plus which folds smaller than the yo-yo for £140-180 but you can’t use a snoozeshade or raincover so for me it’s not an option

Mountain buggy Nano - doesn’t fold up to airline carry on size but almost there! This would be an option at £220 but it doesn’t include a raincover so that’s an extra £20 or so and although it is car seat compatible it isn’t with maxi cosi. With £100 off a car seat if we buy a yo-yo it’s not worth it to me

The yo-yo is amazing. Only one flaw which is that if you spend time on muddy tracks the muck can get trapped between wheels and wheel guard things.

Otherwise it is the best buggy I’ve ever had.

@DaisyLand I have narrowed it down to either sucking it up and splurging on yo-yo or the Chicco OhLaLa (awful name) it’s £80 and is 2kg lighter than yo-yo but only folds lengthways if that makes sense! It gets great reviews and has one curved handle like a yo-yo or bee which is a big plus for me. Only downside is it doesn’t fold as small but at that price you don’t care if it’s bashed around! Also not car seat compatible and to be honest that’s now the only sticking point.

If we weren’t doing 6 weeks backpacking in Asia and were doing a more traditional holiday I’d get the Chicco asi already have a good, small everyday buggy with the bee.

If you have the cash go for the yo-yo, it’s a real stretch for us and not sure I can justify such an expensive option for car / holidays (am in London so barely use car)

Ps I love the Bee - 100% happy I chose it over yo-yo even now

I love my Yo Yo and is the best buggy for travelling with, it’s light enough to carry and as it folds up like a large bag is actually easier to carry over the shoulder.

I also loved mine in cafes and things as you could fold it and stash it easily.

I originally got it as it fitted in front of my daughters car seat as I had my sons disablity bulky buggy in the back.

The only downside is it’s not suitable for off rd terrains with mud and stones and I found the hood flimsy ( I would expect more for the price).

Thank you ! So far we'll only get the bee but in a years time might be time to get a 2nd hand Yoyo as i wnna do a xmas trip somewhere in europe by then the baby will be over 6m so wont need the carrycot etc.
I'd not need the car adaptes i believe as said it'd only be for holidays.
And as you mention it needs to be handluggage size, i dont want to be battling with ryanair/easyjet and their measurement rules!

Thanks @kyz1981 - I agree re the hood!

@DaisyLand make sure you start looking early for a good deal on a second hand one. This trip is all rather last minute and there aren’t many around. Or they go for so much that you may as well buy new! Good luck with the pregnancy and baby 😊

Sorry I kinda lost track reading through this, no experience of the buggy at all, but I would advise against buying a car seat now that you won't need until July, or limiting yourself to one brand so far in advance. Based on your child's centiles their needs might change and the seat might not be the most suitable.

Thanks @Anotherdayanotherdollar - good point!

So after a chat we’ve decided we don’t want to rush into a car seat purchase and that the yo-yo is just too much as a second buggy, even second hand. If we didn’t have a Bee and had a much bigger everyday buggy (or more cash!) I’d prob have gone for the yo-yo.

I’m getting the Chicco OhLaLa it seems to do everything we want for a good price and after this trip the car seat compatibility won’t be such an issue. DS loves the sling and if we go long haul we usually go direct or with Emirates who have buggies on hand in Dubai for transits.
