Hoods/ canopies and sun protection?

Does anyone know if pushchair hoods/canopies have to offer UV protection?? I've always assumed that if I pull hood over my baby to keep the sun off, they are being protected. However I've just bought a new, smaller, lightweight buggy to take on hol and DH commented on the thinness of the fabric. I've checked all the labels, booklets, details on manufacturers website and there's no mention, so now I'm feeling a bit
