Buggy for a newborn and a large child (4yo sized)?

I am due a baby any day and my uppa baby vista wont fit the basinet and rumble seat together. DS2 is only just 2, but 17kg and in 3-4yo clothes. We have tried a few double buggies and he doesn't fit in them.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a 'newborn and a whopper' double buggy?

I find the mountain buggy a comfortable fit for a larger child and you can use a bassinet for the newborn too.

Hi. No real life experience but these exist

The out and about nipper 360 double fits the bill. Brilliant pushchair.
I had the older version and put a Phil and teds cocoon on the laid flat seat for the baby. It still fitted my large 4 yr old with no bother too.
I think the newer version can fit a proper carrycot, though that may just be the single, I'm not 100% sure.

I also have a whopping great toddler and a baby due, so I'm watching with interest. I'm only early on so wondering how much DS will be walking independently by 2.6y? Would like to be able to use my lovely pram again, but otherwise I have been eyeing up the Mountain Buggy Duet.

Just checked, yes newer double nippers can take a carrycot. I loved it so much I bought a single one when we didn't need the double anymore.

Mountain buggy duet weight limit is really high designed for up to 5yos. My 4yo was very happy in it (he only weighs 14kg though!)

Out and about was amazingly easy to manoeuvre, fitted baby, toddler and a preschooler on the footrest, and could still steer it with one hand!

We sold the mountain buggy duet as ds2 couldn't fit in it. He was sitting sideways and his feet were dragging along the floor. We had it for ds1 and ds2 when ds2 was born and ds1 also didn't fit comfortably in it either (he was 2 as well) so we stopped using it as soon as ds2 was 5 months and could go into the vista with ds1 in the rumble seat.

Baby jogger city mini twin - used to chuck DTs in there when they were 4 on a long day out - lloads of room and seats fully recline.

We've got the single Britax B-Agile and it's really roomy, I think they have a carrycot attachment.

Oh maybe it's Duo I'm thinking of...

MrsKoala Fri 07-Oct-16 12:36:12

I thought the duo and duet were same dimensions? Don't despair Peace, your normal children will probably fit in it - everyone else's non freakishly large babies seem to! grin

I don't want to spend lots as we just spent £340 getting pur vista repaired and now our dictator sleep trainer has said I can't wear the baby in a sling so need a double from birth.

No - 1 of the mountain buggies is slightly bigger; still fits through door frames etc and is a good sturdy frame which is nice to push.

We just bought ours of, of ebay [think £150?]

Out n about nipper. Great double. I missed mine when my 3yo started walking everywhere so I sold it and got the single.

We just got rid of our Out and About (had a single not a double), it was great for a larger child. My son was also wearing 3-4 clothes and he is very tall and he fitted fine! I assume the double has the same kind of proportions!

peaceloveandbiscuits Fri 07-Oct-16 15:18:45

My child is freakishly large though sadshock

MrsKoala Fri 07-Oct-16 16:37:15

DS2 isn't so much tall as very very wide! so the height isn't the issue, it's his shoulders and body. We tried one the other day with the baby cot underneath and a seat above for a toddler facing forward and he was just perched on the edge and looked panicky like he was going to fall forward. He was grabbing at me shouting 'i wantto get out'. He couldn't sit back into the chair at all.

As i said he's 17kg and 93cm tall. Last time i measured his waist it was 56cm.
