Is what I'm looking for a Bugaboo Bee Plus?

Ok so we had a Quinny Buzz for DS, and switched to a Maclaren Techno XT at around 18 months. Quinny was brilliant, but Maclaren is gloriously light and easy. 23 weeks pregnant now and pondering buggies. The Quinny is in perfect condition and I should reuse it (and probably will) except....I want a new one! I was something suitably plush for a newborn but as light, easy and glorious as the Maclaren. Is it a Bee? Ad if so, are they totally suitable for newborns? Am driving myself mad with it, any input gratefully received

Yes they are suitable for newborns. They have a snug cocoon. The good thing about the Bee is that it lasts for ages, it's not a pram they can grow out of for a long time as the seat and back extend. So many pushchairs look so bulky and I wonder how many people end up buying a stroller for their toddler instead, where as we are still using our Bee for our 23 month old.

It's dead easy to fold, no bits to take off first, lightweight, has height adjustable handles and the basket is a good size. It rear and parent faces. Very small in the back of a car. Pulls up in one click.

It pushes much easier than the maclaren. We have one of those too, but to be honest we use the Bee about 90% of the time as its so much nicer.

Oh, and you get to choose from loads of colours!

Just get a soft carrycot for the xt.

I have the xlr with carrycot, and it did all the way through for dd and is in great condition for any future dcs.

How does a carrycot work for the XT? Where does it go?

You can't put a carry cot on an XT. I loved my Bee and have had three of them. Perfect pushchair for what I wanted. The only thing it isn't great at is any surface more challenging than a gentle woodland path. Otherwise it's utterly fab and used it for both of mine as newborns.

The seat lays back almist horizontal, and the carrycot sits on top.

Aooarently the phil & ted cocoon fits oerfectly on the xt.

I'm tempted to just use the XT if it is suitable, just feels a bit, sparse compared to the plushness of the travel systems, but it's so light and easy. Bees are so pretty though....

You NEED a bee
There's nothing nicer than a sleeping baby in a pram you love pushing and looking at

Oh and if you need more reasons, the Bee will parent face for as long as you like, which is lovely, and the suspension and steering is much better than on any of the maclarens. I've had 2, XLR and Quest but I never liked maclarens.

I love my Bee - lightweight, compact, easy, pretty. Totally suitable for newborn with a cocoon, of which there are loads barely used on ebay etc for less than £30. Strapping the baby in feels v secure, they don't rattle about.

You don't NEED it of course, you could manage fine with the XT, but it's a lovely luxury if you can spare the money. It makes me quite unreasonably happy. Go on, you know you want to

I have a bee and absolutely love it. Used it with both first and second DC's from birth until old enough to walk. Lightweight, brilliant for town shopping as it's small and so easy to steer. Small in boot of car and easy to fold/unfold. Downside is not great on cobbles/gravel or off roading, but I love mine! Do it!

Another plus of the Bee is the flexibility with no. 2.

Don't know how old your DS is, but DD1 just used a buggy board for long distances. However, the odd time she was utterly wiped out, I whipped the cocoon off the Bee and she could sit in it, with the baby either being carried by one of us or in a sling.

Yeah so Penguin's comment totally sold me. DS will be three, but still has naps at the moment, that sounds perfect.

So, I need buggy, hood and cocoon for a newborn, that's it?

Yep. Loads of cocoons on ebay by the look of it. If you have an older one and no double buggy I do think the ease of going from newborn to toddler is a big plus.

Lordy, the choice! I like the cobalt blue, the red and...is it wrong to like the yellow?

mind you am also watching one (out of 'interest' only you understand...) on eBay just down the road, its red and only used for six months, currently at £200, anything to look out for?

I loved the yellow too, but I read that it attracts bees/wasps in the summer (no idea if that's an urban myth, but DH is phobic so that was that!) I went with black in the end with coloured accessories.
