Pliko Pramette has finally given up the ghost - any cheaper models out there with a great big basket?

We've had our Mamas and Papas Pliko Pramette for 5 years since DD1 was born and have used it at least once a day in all that time so have got good value for money. I use it a lot for shopping as the basket is great and is much less likely to tip over than other buggies I have used for this reason.

I would like to replace it with something reasonably cheap - but cheap or not I can't find anything with similar capacity basket. Can anyone recommend anything?

Pliko was great, I had a M&P Venezia since DS, still used regularly and DS will be 9 in August. Borrowed a pliko once for a holiday and wished I'd bought that instead. Sorry, can't suggest an alternative.

Incidentally, not still used by DS, DD2is 2.6!

Can dd2 stand up in one of these?

Pliko Pramettes appear second hand quite regularly on my local Gumtree site. Depending on how much longer you are likely to need a pushchair for, it might be an economical solution?

Joyce Division - great suggestion but knowing DD2 would chuck all the shopping out if she was in the same space!

RedKites thanks for response will check out local sites. Have had a look on ebay and put off by the thoughts of couriers etc.

My problem is I don't drive so need a sturdy buggy to lug loads of stuff around. Could do with something a bit easier to fold though.

Okay, what style are you after? Two handles or a single one? Umbrella folds generally have smaller baskets but not universally, i've never looked at the pliko basket tbh.

Buying a used pushchair on ebay is usually simple, if someone is willing to post it you just receive it like you would anything else. There's alwaysthe risk that something arrives and isn't what you'd expect, or maybe more relevant to you as you walk a lot, things are sometimes more used that you expect so have less life left in them but largely the experience seems to be fine.

If you like the pliko they usually go cheap, the jane solo or solo reverse is similar, has decent basket and is robust. I could suggest lots of other stuff but without knowing how much you want to spend and the specific sort of thing you're after it might not be that useful.

Thanks Ihateparties will have another look on ebay - would really prefer two handles. Thanks.

I have this buggy, totally love it and have been using it since my 6 yr old was born. It needed fixing for baby number 3 and I took it to mamas and papas and paid £45 I think for a repair and service, with delivery back to my home included. Possibly the best £45 I have ever spent - so if there is any chance it can be fixed I would try that before getting a new buggy!

Ooh thank you Nonsensical. It is only that one of the wheels has fallen off and another is weirdly worn down. I will email them and see what they say.

You can sometimes get pushchair spares on eBay. Might be worth a look to see of you can get replacement wheels.

I used to have a Pliko and I seem to remember the wheels were pretty easy to take off

Thanks Meg - will definitely check that out, although have to say got a very apologetic reply from M&P that we had had this problem even though I made sure to day pushchair was 5 years old and had good use from it. They said to take it in to be looked at and they could then quote for replacement parts.

Problem solved thanks to MegMogandOwl - got spare wheels for £18, pushchair is fixed and I am happy again!

Many thanks.
