Which is best - Bugaboo Bee or Nuna Pepp?

I have a DS who is now 9 months old, and am looking for a lightweight pushchair that will last him until he doesn't need it anymore! He is average weight and height. I have narrowed it down to either the all black Bugaboo Bee or the Nuna Pepp. Which one would you recommend? Thanks in advance!

I have have been using the Nuna with my 2.5 year old since she was around 4 6 months- and its been fab. Nice quality, has held up nicely, SUPER compact, and im not sure, but i believe that its not as pricey as bugaboo.

anna080 · 19/03/2013 15:43

Thanks, sounds like you have had a good experience with the Nuna! I love that it folds in half and looks really easy to do. There is quite a big price difference like you say, roughly £300 I think. Don't mind spending the extra if the Bee is worth it but if not then would rather save my money and get the Nuna!

Well the bugaboo seems to have more options front and rear facing but the Numa looks like it folds smaller.
Both are a bit ugly... Grin

JazzAnnNonMouse · 19/03/2013 15:50

Plus they're both v expensive for just a buggy.

anna080 · 19/03/2013 16:37

You're right about the choice of front and rear facing options on the Bee but Nuna folding smaller - the fold is something I prefer on the Nuna. I know opinions vary on buggies, I like the look of these 2 compared to a lot of others I have seen but each to their own :-) I agree they're not the cheapest but I have read good reviews of both and will be using them for this baby and one or two more babies if we're lucky enough to have more, so I think I will get my money's worth.

I love the Nuna Pepp, it folds ultra small and is easy to maneuver with one hand if you have to hold onto another child. Would definitely recommend Grin

thaliablogs · 19/03/2013 16:57

Having rear facing option is absolutely crucial for language development, would sway me completely

Ihateparties · 19/03/2013 17:15

Crucial might be a bit strong unless you plan on never talking to them unless in the pushchair or sommat... Grin

JazzAnnNonMouse · 19/03/2013 18:48

I don't think facing you is the be all and end all unless you plan to never speak to them out of the buggy Grin

anna080 · 20/03/2013 12:05

Thanks all - am leaning towards the Nuna now (and will speak to DS both in and out of the pushchair!). Just one quick question for those who own it - do you find the Nuna easy to get up and down kerbs, as I've read a few reviews which say it can be difficult due to the small wheels?

Tiggywunkle · 21/03/2013 23:14

I prefer the Nuna for ease of use. Its so easy to fling open and go. However, the basket is small and difficult to access, and the harness is a jigsaw puzzle one of the worst kind and drove me nutty when it was freezing cold and my fingers wouldn't work. But at least the footmuff doesn't get in the way when folding or dangle off. The Nuna raincover is plain weird and takes a while to fit. The Nuna seat seems on the small size - I think visually compact is probably the word I need because I have actually had a good sized child in a Nuna and pushed them around all day. So an older child does fit. Its more stable and nicer in some ways to push than the Bee. However I think on balance the Bee has more options and seems to have more space. I think time of year sways me too. Given we are now in Spring, the Bee will be a far nicer pushchair to go through the summer with. By next winter, you could always use a snow suit or fleece trousers etc instead of a footmuff. I think I would save up and get a Bee - having been first to JL and tried both back to back. But I think its a close call and really it depends what you will use it for. The Nuna is more functional but I love the ease of open / close. The Bee is easier to do up, has the extending seat, basket space etc.

BTW I agree totally that unless you spend 12 hours a day out with the pushchair, that RF is not essential. I know I spend far more of my child's waking hours at home with them, and I think we both enjoy the break when out and about Wink

anna080 · 22/03/2013 16:32

Thankyou Tiggywunkle, appreciate your advice and the detailed information. I have been to a local baby showroom to have a play with the Bee today and do really like it for the reasons you have mentioned. The extending back and seat are definite positives as I don't want to have to buy another buggy after this. I will try John Lewis though so I can have the Nuna there too and try DS in both at the same time. The fold of the Nuna looks so much better than the Bee but the harness clip sounds like a pain. I hate being so indecisive, wish I could have both!

Tiggywunkle · 22/03/2013 21:57

I would choose by function. If its a quick flick open and go from the car to the shops then buy the Nuna. If its for more of an all day trip then go for the Bee...
I think you will see the Bee has more room, but dont write off the Nuna because it will do the job fine if that makes sense :)

Tiggywunkle · 22/03/2013 21:58

Just to add, I had both, and I sold the Nuna - but for one reason only...I had a YoYo and I see the Nuna in that lightweight category and the Bee in a group a step up IYKWIM.

KateShmate · 24/03/2013 23:29

Well, I have no idea how on earth you would choose - the Bee and the Nuna are my 2 complete favourite buggies.. of all time! Grin
Before I start, could you not just buy second hand of both, and have 2 buggies?
The Nuna and the Bee push very similarly - turn on a sixpence, and are very very smooth; you can easily push both with just one hand, or even your little finger.
The fold of the Nuna is just brilliant, could fit in a footwell if necessary, and it pops back up so easily too. I do have to say though, there is a slight issue with kerbs.. this is just a random image, but will help explain what I mean - here .The underneath bit is really low down, and so when you go down a kerb it often scrapes that bit. Have had a few times where it's been a high kerb, and have rushed to go down it, the buggy has then got stuck mid-kerb-flight; when you then go to push it with your foot, you put the brake on and you're even more stuck. It only happens very rarely, and on big kerbs, but it could be a slight issue. The harness is a nightmare, but I've always wondered whether you could just superglue the bits together so that you've just got a plain 2-point harness? The seat is brilliant - especially around the age of your DS; it puts them in a great position for sitting up, and supports them really, really well. It is quite a narrow seat, but I see this as an advantage as it kind of keeps them in place rather than having DC's lolling around in there and slumping to the side?
Onto the Bee, which has always been an all time favourite. It really does do everything, and whilst I can come up with a few 'niggles' about the Nuna, I can't really think of many for the Bee. Obviously it is more expensive, but I do think that with Bugaboo, you pay for what you get - they're brilliant and last forever. The seat can occasionally be a bit difficult when you first get it - takes a bit of getting used to with putting it backwards and forwards.
It is really tricky, but I think, despite my total love for the Nuna, I'd go for the Bee. It's more of an 'all-rounder' I suppose?
Definitely go into JL and try your DS in them and push them around though - is the only way that you'll get a good feel for them both, good luck! :)

anna080 · 25/03/2013 15:11

I have considered getting both even though DH might kill me! As there are aspects of both that I really like for different situations and I genuinely can't choose between the 2. It seems from everyone's comments that there is a lot of love for both of them. Thanks for the pic, I do get what you mean about the issues with going up kerbs and this was something that bothered me about the Nuna (although I can't imagine it would happen to me all the time?!). Definitely prefer the fold of the Nuna to that of the Bee as it seems lots neater.
I really like all the pushchairs that Bugaboo make and Bee seems to be highly rated by the majority of people who have one. I wish I'd had the Cameleon as my travel system type pushchair and I think this is one of the reasons I fancy a Bee, I like the ability to change colours of hoods etc! Shallow I know. Will definitely get myself down to John Lewis and see how DS is in both the Nuna and Bee....I also read an article on the Babyzen Yoyo after Tiggywunkle mentioned that and it looks fab too, I will really confuse myself if I add that into the equation though!!

KateShmate · 25/03/2013 20:15

What if you got them both second hand? You can always get lovely bee's on eBay; and they both fold pretty small so it would just be like you had one big buggy Grin (Can you tell that I'm a pro at this?!)
The Nuna is such an under-rated buggy - I have no idea why it's not ridiculously popular! Although I'm pleased as it means mine is a bit more unusual!
You're right about the kerb thing - it doesn't happen all the time, but it is just something to be wary about. And the fold is really really neat on the Nuna.
I am a definite Bugaboo fan, and wish that I'd had a Cameleon too. I don't think it's shallow at all to like Bugaboo for their changeable fabrics - are we really supposed to have the same buggy in the same colour for 3/4 years odd?! Before I had triplets (and had the pleasure of 'normal' buggies) I was changing my buggies constantly because I was getting bored of it. What I love about the Bee is that you can get sooo many customisable accessories from eBay - some places you can even send the fabric you want, and they make it into the hood/seat liner/ foot muff etc! That is the only issue with the Nuna, because its a bit of a rarity, you can't get many nice footmuffs/seat liners for it; obviously that shouldn't put you off buying it though ;)
Not really seen the Yoyo before, but looks suspiciously like the Bee to me...
Let us know how you get on and which you decide on - I have a small feeling that you could be making 2 purchases...!!!

anna080 · 25/03/2013 21:30

Ha ha, I like your thinking! I wonder if the equation of 1 small buggy + 1 small buggy = 1 big buggy will work with DH?! Unfortunately he doesn't seem to understand my love of pushchairs.
I am surprised how few Nunas you see around, as the reviews I've read and comments on here are all glowing. But I agree it's nice to have something that stands out a bit more. The first time I heard of a Nuna was seeing a photo of Orlando Bloom's supermodel wife pushing their very cute DS in it, so that's always a good selling point!
Glad I'm not being shallow - I would really love the Bugaboo Bee with the black frame as it looks quite sporty but then I quite fancy getting a yellow hood for it too. Triplet buggies must be a whole new world, sadly uninhabited by Bugaboo! You might be right about 2 purchases if I can sneakily get my way - will keep you posted...

As you mentioned the Yoyo this is coming to the UK soon and will be sub £200.. Tiggy and I saw them at the weekend and we're signed up already... infact we'd probably have stolen them off the stand if they had looked away for long enough Smile

KateShmate · 25/03/2013 22:16

Parties Looks a bit too much like a M&P Luna?
Anna I look forward to hearing about the JL trip :) I personally think that a black frame with yellow hood would look awesome! I've had the yellow hood and it's a lovely colour yellow, I bet the orange and black would look good too! Unfortunately as I already have the chrome chassis, I'm not sure I could blag myself a black frame!

Ihateparties · 25/03/2013 22:51

IRL - nothing at all like a luna. Sooooo far from a luna Grin

Tiggywunkle · 26/03/2013 22:47

sighs the Livi looks LOVELY! I like small folding pushchairs!

Never heard of nuna... Although as an (all black) chameleon driver i would say bee.

anna080 · 27/03/2013 11:14

Thanks Parties and Tiggy - I think out of the Yoyo and Livi I prefer the Yoyo as it looks a bit more stylish. But obviously you've seen and tried out both in real life and I have seen neither sadly...

Orange and black sounds fab Kate, love bright colours on hoods so it might have to be the Bee!

Abby - does the black Bugaboo frame show up scratches more easily than the aluminium frame?

OP posts:
abbyfromoz · 27/03/2013 11:20

Anna i wouldn't say so. We've had ours 2 years now and it gets thrown around in and out if the car... Dogs always on top of it (grrr!) on and off buses... I have only ever noticed one scratch and i blame DH! Lol
